Maybe I am over-thinking these devices, or just do not understand MIDI very well, I am not sure, and I cannot seem to locate a definitive answer.
I am specifically interested in using the Behringer CMD MM-1 and/or the DV-1 for DAW/VST control. I like the idea of the USB hub on the MM-1, in addition to USB connectivity and encoders on both. From what I have read they are "MIDI class compliant" and "can be used with any application that can receive MIDI". I have seen maps for both of these devices and see that they have MIDI values assigned natively to most of the individual controls. This leads me to believe that if my applications have MIDI Learn capabilities, I can simply plug-and-play, assigning the software/hardware controls as I go.
As used with DJ software, I keep seeing references to templates and scripts required for most DJ controllers, including these. Do I need to create templates/scripts for each of my applications/VST's? Can I save the MIDI "learned" controller settings within my application, VST, or DAW, or do I need to reassign them every time?
I was also looking at a Stanton SCS.1m controller, which has Firewire connectivity, as does my current audio interface, and it has knobs instead of encoders. Does anyone have any insights or experience using one of these in the same way as above?
Thank you in advance for any and all assistance! (Including the wise guys and trolls that are lurking)
