The thing with Studio One is a known bug of S1. I hope it's fixed soon.

I don't know what the deal is with Win10. That's two people in the last page. I don't have this issue, so I have no idea what's going on with their setups vs. mine.

I can't wait to give this a try. I hope later tonight. Shoulda pre-ordered from JRR Shop. :?

As cool as Modular is, there is still tons of basics missing. I wonder how many of those we'll see in a future update as basic utility modules, or will we be stuck paying for every new module from here on out?
After a bit of experimentation, I was able to roll my own sequencer using sequential switches and offsets which allows me to scan through the steps, thereby facilitating the creation of quantizers, waveshapers, etc. Getting the scaling right is pretty fiddly though. I really wish they'd included an oscilloscope, among many other missing basic tools.

Anyone who's been to the Reaktor 6 library can confirm that there are already a bunch of very cool sequencers and other modules free for the taking. 241 at current count. Judging how Softube is pricing things, it looks like everything will be ala carte from here. That could end up being a damn expensive piece of software.

:o

I was hanker'n to fiddle with Softube Modular and I couldn't download it. Instead I poked around the Reaktor user library and found a new filter module called Vodka based on the Polivoks and it's amazing. That would have set me back... $30-40 if it was a Softube module? Just say'n.

The more I think about it, the more I wish that Softube had just developed these as paid Reaktor Blocks, that way they could live in a very "Eurorack" like ecology that already exists.

Yes, but just like the eurorack hardware, no one is making you buy every module (or multiple versions) available.....

I wonder why u-he is not on this like Softtube? Maybe Zebra 3 is taking a lot of their time? I hope so! 8)

How's CPU for y'all?
I'm getting crackles, 70% CPU load with very basic perc patches, +100% for monosynth: yikes?

Weird. I'm only running an I3 (yeah, old PC) and not having any CPU problems at all. But this rig has been running odd since I got it back in the stone ages. I can run about 35 instances of Omni 2 before it craps out on me.

Don't ask me to explain it because I can't. Maybe somebody here has an explanation. I do have 16 gig RAM if that makes a difference, but I doubt it.

I'm running 3ghz core2 duo with 4gb of ram and basic monosynth patch doesn't make anykind of impact to my cpu :D

*edit*

Do you have amd?

I admire Softube for their braveness to put this out. I'm glad to see though that they're "cooking with water" as we say in German.

Software can not yet replace my own hardware Eurorack modular. Softube's modular is a small step towards that, but they have a lot of work ahead creating more interesting modules than the ones available today.

I haven't had time to try it out yet, but I'm much more interested in seeing how well I can integrate Softube Modular into my hardware Eurorack system. Having the convenience of an endless supply of extra modules is definitely interesting. Although to be honest, I rarely use more than a tenth of the modules in my hardware modular for any given patch.

Maybe U-He could step in, filling the space with some interesting modules? 8)

Well, I'm exploring West Coast stuff. A patch for me is a machine that is the composition, and I'll use the knobs to steer it into one direction or another. So the racks are laid out in a way that lets me utilize 80% or more for a complex music generator - without a piano roll. The second thing I explore is "no filters, no traditional envelopes". I've become a Maths addict.

I also made it a rule that once I've grown tired of a patch/composition, I remove all cables, without any notes. That's also because it's a steep learning curve and I don't want to cheat. I think that many modular synthesists build a repertoir of "go to methods" of patching things up. This way they're able to change a patch on the fly in a live situation or remove one voice and replace it with a completely different one.

I use polyphonic midi-2-cv interfaces solely to transpose different parts of the music, but never to play chords. (Must test if I can do that in Softube, possibly in conjunction with Expert Sleepers)

I never use drum modules. While they're a compact way to save space and money, it feels like cheating to me. I feel that synthesized "drums" shouldn't necessarily adhere to classical roles such as base, snare and hats. That said, I just ordered Mutable's Peaks - let's see... I might check the Heartbeat modules out, but I wonder if there's "more" to using drums in a modular synth other than what's possible in a dedicated drum machine anyway.

(I'd be glad if a software modular could be discussed on this level rather than what it sounds like, what it's protected with and how much CPU it costs)

Hehe, ask me in our company forum, I'm not going to speculate about u-he products in this thread. I'd much rather have myself post here as a synth guy than as a software developer.

Let's take the opportunity to discuss modular synthesis and what Softube can do. My first wishes would be a lowpass gate and a function generator.
