Is it possible with VariAudio 2.0 in Cubase 8.5 to turn monophonic audio into MIDI signals as with Melodyne in Studio One?

I'm trying to decide whether I want to go back to S1v3 or if I want to go back to Cubase again. The last version of Cubase I had was 6.5.

I prefer composing in S1, but I know that Cubase is much more capable in more areas and is more compatible with more hardware.

It is, but the audio needs to be kind of "straight" - not too many slides, and more or less pitch perfect and so on - to get decent results.

What hardware would that be. As far as Variaudio Vs Melodyne, Melodyne is more capable.

Mostly the Panorama P4 and various HW mixers with motorized faders.

audio-to-MIDI is more of an "icing on the cake" feature thank a must-have for me, but it's good to know.

Yes, it can, and seems to generally require about as much midi cleanup as melodyne from what i can tell.
For vocal corrections, i prefer variaudio. For creative mangling, especially poly, melodyne's tough to beat.
