In keeping with the Soundtrack theme of this challenge, I felt there needed to be massive low end (for the theater experience) with a lot of shimmering highs to fit the genre. Since all the tracks were stereo and included their own FX & panning, I did very little there. Mainly just a balancing act and giving everything their own tonal place in the mix. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed mixing it!

hey peeps! :D

here's the mp3: https://app.box.com/s/ry4ovi1ddj5cuo7d933i13vm704zritk
here's the wav: https://app.box.com/s/rn0iomkb1z4yzjxsv1x5ynywe935wh97

After setting init levels, begun mix in mono with the drums, then backed off to about 75% mono merged to get a bit of an idea about the stereo image... mixing like this, after returning to normal, I immediately reached for the stereo width knob or M/S eq on individual drums.

Song was a bit too "spacious" for me so I had to get all the tracks where what I thought was the norm to begin with.... Not to mention the printed reverb on the piano especially (on the harp too but not so much trouble) was always getting in the way so I created a "de-verber" from a multi-band expander made out of FF Pro-MB + notched out some resonant hangs with eq so that helped a bit.
(anyway, I suspect Bjulin won't like that the piano is now at a lower volume/level from his version ;) )

Subtle 2bus processing includes:
Presswerk doing about 1-2db GR tops mostly when the drums hit
FF Pro-MB taming some bands, very subtle use though...
TB ReelBus for glue and to smooth out the very tops
Waves L1 doing "nothing" ... well almost (it's adding 24bit dither)

Very nice track. Sounds great already even with no processing, so I focused on giving each sound its individual space with little processing.
I focused the song on the piano and built the rest around it, aiming at a big and clear sound. Secondary elements were the harp and the arps.
FX are quite low in volume as I wanted them to add interest without drawing too much attention from the melodic elements.

Great track to mix. Really great sounds. Didn't really do a whole lot. Tried to find a good balance. Tried not to hide the bass and beef up the drums a little. I also moved the snare a little. I just liked it there. I had the Klanghelm MJUC on the mix bus from the start with a tiny bit of compression. I also used parallel compression on the drums. Also parallel compression on the bass on cello on the same aux. I didn't bury the effects because i thought it made the track seem more dynamic with all the stereo panning already there. I high passed most of the tracks. Thanks to Bjulin for the track and Compyfox for running the show. Cheers.

Hey, everyone.

So this is my mix:

MP3: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_g4B ... FlndUcwU1U

IMO the original mix was already very good so my job was just to NOT screw things up :lol: . I just lowered the gain on some tracks to give me more headroom to work and focused in creating space for every instrument using EQ and compression.

Some highlights:

- To me, the leads in terms of melody were the piano and harp;
- On the intro, some instruments were automated (specially the bassline) to build up and create even more movement to the song;
- I tightened up the drums with a gate and added some reverb for more impact. Also used parallel compression to give it more body;
- The FX were also automated to maintain its support role in a consistent level.
- Buss processing included console and tape saturation, minor EQ moves and an SSL-style compression.

Good luck to all!

[MIX NOTES]
Nice track, and excellent quality of stems ^^
I saw this mix as to be cinematic/spatial/aquatic and this is what I tried to achieve. Since the stems were clean already I just eq a bit here and there to remove some lows or highs, and to unmask a bit instruments. I used some saturation on some tracks to make them more audible. Finally I tried to glue it all a bit with tape. compression only used on 1 instrument and on drums. a slight reverb on some drums to give them a tail. stereo almost untouched as it was already there.

Good luck to everybody ^^ :tu:
