I don't understand guys.....

-my laptop has a 4 pin firewire input
-my firewire 410 soundcard comes with a 6 x 4 pin cable

BUT IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO CONNECT THIS CABLE IN MY LAPTOP!!!!!!!!!! WHY???????

it seems that the input is very little smaller....

PS: it is all new hardware.....so it's not broken

DO I HAVE TO FORCE IT???
IM AFRAID I CAN BROKE THE INPUT :?:

You need one of these cables...they are usually used for connect DV cameras with PC but I use it for connecting my firewire card with laptop...no forcing needed...

Sounds like you have the wrong cable if it won't fit. Most laptops are 4 pin, and the Firewire 410 is 6 pin. You sure you got an appropriate 6pin to 4 pin adapter cable?

My FW 410 came with a 6-pin to 6-pin cable with a 6p to 4p adapter for one end. Make sure everything's snug and seated properly and that you have the FW410 powered on before your notebook...If yours didn't come with the little adapter then you'll have to get a 6 to 4 like püRe said...

The adapter looks like this. If there's not one in the box it may be cheaper to get one than a whole new cable...

or get a Fire Wire Pcmia card bus so you can use bus power. Just make shure to check the M-Audio page for tested cards.

get a pcmcia card for your firewire card. thats what i do. they work better than the builtin and they arent as fragile.
