I recommend you read this whole message if you want to learn about a really cool thing to get and work with that's wonderful. Start of message.
They made both the Nord Modular and the Nord Modular Micro in addition to the Nord Modular G2. I saved every one of my Nord patches and then sold my G2 after already having had sold my Nord Modular one and interestingly made a handful of things that are fully accesible. I first got my Nord Modular in 1998 from Sweetwater sound located in Indiana. If anyone's curious I couldn't help but fully as an aside from the classic Nord Modular series COMPLETELY recommend for any foreseeable or known reason Propellerheads.se Reason 9 no matter what you'd normally think as the best modular.
If you make your own sounds good enough you could even come nicely to paralleling Omnisphere and also Absynth and Alchemy. Seriously. If you want to know how good you can make soundscapes and new age and ambient in the most creative non cheap way with what they call a refill which is a set of preset sounds or effects all compactly contained in one or a series of files I think that the small company www.sonicflavours.com refill's have a superb example beyond any of the most modern refill's available on www.propellerheads.se direct of soundscapes new and ambient sounds. No effects are included.
For the case of things like deep modular programming and ambient and advanced sequencing they even have really cool sequencing modules like Euclidean and grid pulse sequencing and even super advanced and or xor nor etc. and sample and hold along with drum patterns and full sampling capacity including using your own .wav's is an availability. They have tons of rack extensions which can be sold for super affordable prices if you don't grab tons of them that are easily as good as vst's. They call the same thing as modules "rack modules" as with things like Korg, Roland, Alesis modules available from the wonderful sweetwater sound. I couldn't help but feel that the only suggestion I have against some things reason produces that I myself ignored is the negative named stuff. They have a synth called Zero synthesizer that I personally no matter what think is most expansible and utilizable. They have even a granular reverb type thing stay away also from the u-he and the Sugar Bytes and you may need special skills to work with Antidote and Parsec in no special way preset wise but may not like the DX-7 emulators if you try them preset wise even though they're touted to have 200k of converted .sysex preset's and full conversion of any TX-7 TX-8 and DX-7 preset's.
If you're a master tweaker some sounds in reason aren't perfect in the box interpolation wise and some are and that's why they criticize it. Rewiring via one of the many host's available guarantee's that the interpolation is translated seemingly (?) to the other DAW via channelized piping into each audio channel. You can fully control midi through reason of a hardware device and you can use your daw to control any midi in reason and fully automate the majority of things in Reason even via DAW control change lanes and also modules themselves. I just wanted to try to get people to spot reason and some junkies read everything here it's amazing how much many post. KVR is perfect and Reason can, if you use a loopback program, even control vst's and vsti's and daw sequencing with the coolest of Control Voltage style control through it's midi out unit. You can even do the exact same as morph knobs or even morph fader's if you spend a slight amount simply because they like knobs for all I know more than fader's although you can use even the mixer unit's fader's to control other cc's. it's fully modular but the fm type stuff and hard syncing etc won't let you wonk out. There are other ways to wonk out that are fully pleasurable.
All modules that are newly loaded automaticly link to the linkable modules for simplicity purposes in Reason btw is one reason I think Reaktor isn't anywhere near as worth getting for a synth as reason especially if you pay extra for a lot more refill's and rack extensions. That's it for now on Modular DAW's and owned Virtual Analog sweet synths. GET REASON EVERYONE REASON 9 is just recently released. Reason on my end never crashed once. Not even once and I've used it since version 3 it's on version 9 now. I very little used it before about version 5 but even version 5 without any refill's or rack extensions at all is incredibly good. You can get version 5 somewhere potentially for sale like ebay but why bother because 9 is Cheap. 9 however requires a usb authentication key but bare in mind that via that key and propellerheads website itself all of your www.propellerheads.se refill and rack extension purchases and freebies you get directly from the site are kept track of for you to reget at any time.
Bye.

So this basically is a sales pitch for reason? You should alter your title...
And...no to reason from my end

It's a modular daw information message about the only all time champion of modular DAW's. It is indeed a full scale MODULAR DAW none none none of the others can do it. If it's pitch why not strike out all the others except what you link to Reason I suggest. Modular rack system some say not as slick as Reaktor but who cares seriously. Reaktor's mini man. Live with it. Mini. It's for minimalism unless it's advanced coding. All of the preset's not some but all are minimalism that is jagged and square and line art. Why? Because art deco can be done with anything and you don't even have a perfect vocoder with reason is your beef? Get tal vocoder then for free with Reaper, man. Or get the other mother of the modulars Bit Wig. Or Fruity Loops for it's uglyness and potentially from what it seems from an educated un-biased person who knows that Bias Peak is no point compared to Twisted Wave let alone any other wav editor/batch editor/conversion program/voice synthesis input program/multi track editor/recorder Twisted Wave is tops for under $100. www.twistedwave.com. It's candyland in no way. Candy rots your teeth. It's like what CoolSchool is enjoyed in memory who cares this ain't candy land. Am I on the gaydar? Darpa is the gaydar.

Reason is actually quite worthless nowadays. It's just a bunch of old code from 1999, regularly regurgitated with useless gimmicks tacked on. The interface is clumsy and slow. The "patch cables" were just a novelty, and doesn't amount to anything worthwhile. The piano roll is way too bare-bones when compared with anything else, has no fun or creative features. Matrix normally would have potential, but what are you going to connect it to? All the synths are atrocious. All the effects are even worse. The arp is decent but nothing to write home about, and again, nothing good to use it with. The program doesn't have any facilities for live playing, or for decent hardware control.
$449 is a bad joke, that's what ableton live costs.
Kore 2 from several millenia ago is far superior as a semi-modular environment to the new Reason 9.
Hell, MUX probably ranks higher as well by now. That's made by one guy.

I use what i want. No need for a sales pitch. And such a coloured comment like yours, isn't really objective enough to make a nice comparison for first time users either.Synapse2k wrote:It's a modular daw information message about the only all time champion of modular DAW's. My DAW's a.t.m. (i use them all daily)
FL Studio, Ableton, Reaper, ReNoise, Pro Tools.
I have tried the reason demo for some time, but after 45 minutes i de-installed it. The rack units are just way too small. Weird ui decision. No tool to enlarge those. I waz reading on fora about this as well and people were discussing which magnifier tool (third party) was best to enlarge the ui. Stupid, if you ask me. Just weird. And they did not change this in version9. So no, no reason for me.

Reason 9 kicks ass dude. As always is and always was, Reason is fun to use. Just ask the multitudes of people who actually enjoy making music with it. Yeah it has some issues, but if one wants to let those issues drag them down, then you've failed from the very start to understand what Reason is all about. I get that people just love to take the negative aspects of Reason and shit on it, but seriously, is it really necessary to do that? I have every VST and every DAW known to man and think that the VST world is the greatest, but when I fire up Reason (with the select cool RE's from each food group that I purchased) I find it to be more exciting and inspiring to use because of it's awesome, solid as a rock, well designed environment. Again, is Reason behind the times in some areas? He'll yeah. I'd be the first one to say that. But I would never go as far as to say that it is shit or worthless like someone here is saying. That's just plain ignorant man. It's a tool that's only good as the user. It's all what you do with it man. Nothing worthless about that at all.

I'd go as far as to say that in 2016, Reason (as a main daw) is the biggest obstacle you can put between yourself and making electronic music on a professional level.
As an aimless toy, I guess it's ok - but in that case it's also around $425 overpriced.
