Hi ,

I am trying to record the o/p from geosynth (an app in ipad ) . I have connected the o/p of ipad (headphone jack ) to input of my scarlett 2i4 audio interface .

Even though the sound seems to be very low ( look at the waveform ) , it seems to clip everytime during playback and there are small hiss and noise sounds . What can I do to rectify this ?

My guess is you need proper gain staging in the recording chain. That means for the synth: turn down the volume (assuming it's too loud and clipping internally already) and on the phone: turn up the volume (ignore the warning about hearing damage, you need the highest output level)

What are those vertical dotted lines .. I hear clipping sound mainly when thoselecting are played .

Can you zoom in on that part, and/or bring up an editor for that clip only?

On the black strip ( selected audio in the image ) , you can see dotted vertical lines ...

I'm not a Cubase user, so this is just a guess....

The dotted vertical lines seem to line up often with the grid. Snap/phrase markings?

Post

No .. it's random as you can see from the image

Well, I'm not the is all, but to me, I can't "hear it" in anything (looks like it's all pics) and there is nothing that I can see that is visually disturbing.

I don't have cubase, but I head stuff described like this so often......two thoughts, then I'm out.

-can you SUPER zoom on that part and get a visual on the waveform

-also, unless I'm missing something, can you do audio for this? (could have missed that)

Frequently (regardless) I've seen (heard) stuff that can only be accounted for at super zoom factor.

The fact that those hitpoint markers are showing up would indicate to me that this is some sort of cabling issue. Static from bad cables/jacks/plugs frequently gets picked up as transients with various detection systems.
