Can only hear track playback when I double click it, not when I click play and cursor moves over it?

Hi there,

Apologies straight off for any stupidity but I'm new to Tracktion and have tried to work out as much as I can on my own but am now a little stuck. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I have plugged in my Line 6 Tonport UX1 audio box into my PC running Tracktion 7. It appears to work if in Settings I choose 'Windows Audio' (I get an output and input choice here) or 'ASIO' from the 'Audio device type' box (I just get a 'Device' choice then) and I select the 'Line 6 Toneport UX1' or 'ASIO Toneport UX1' in the 'Device' box. The channel names change from Send 1 and Send 2 to input 1 and 2 but I don't know if that matters? Anyway I test it and I can hear it and record both my keys and mic through my Line6 box by switching between mic or instrument on the GearBox software that comes with the Line 6 box.

BUT even though I can get a level and then get it to record, when I set the little white line to play it back there's nothing - either through speakers or headphones and I've tried a few things. It does however play back in my headphones (plugged into my Line6 box) when I double click on the recorded sections?! I also have a yellow triangle on the recorded line saying 'this track contains wave clips that may be inaudible as it doesn't output to an audio device. To change a track's destination, select the track and use it's destination list'. I feel like I know what this means, but actually I don't! If I click on the track the right input is selected, but I don't know what the destination list is. I can only think that my speakers are not set up right somehow but then why would it playback when I double click it but not when I press play and the white line moves over it? I don't know what else to try and it's sending me potty! Please help!

On the left, just above where you select the input and arm recording, click on the "Track n" name, and that will have track properties for output. Now on the box at the bottom, you have "track destination"; and from there you can select which output you want it to go to. Make sure the one you select is one of the enabled outputs (ASIO or Audio1+2) or default audio output.

If you'd been playing with ASIO on and off, it's possible the track is set the wrong way, and that particular audio output isn't enabled at the time; while the little audio sampler that you got when double-clicked goes to "default audio output".

I've set to default audio output - goodness knows what that is now, but it's working and another thing found!

While Tracktion's philosophy is to keep everything at your fingertips and is quite logical, often one finds options that pop up that give a whole new set of possibilities.

I would almost think that, when a track is selected, there was a more obvious way of finding output options, and they would be on the right side of the track, along with the Mute and Solo buttons; or when one selects the input options (which are quite intuitive), there would be something to guide you to track output as well.
