Orion lets me increase the buffer to 486 ms which allows for more room for cpu. Same instruments and arrangement in fl studio maxes out cpu. I can only crease the buffer in fl studio to 186 (using primary soundcard since asio's max is even less than this). How can I increase the buffer past 186, to more around 500ms. I won't be automating or recording midi -- if i do, I simply decrease the buffer temporarily. I've search google and the youboob but found nothing helpful to this simple issue. thanks

decrease the sample rate instead, i think it makes the buffer "longer"

THANK YOU!

edit** crashed fl studio twice!! Amazing 189ms is the limit for 44k :o

is there a reason why when fl studio is not running, the cpu is 70% in this project? There are about 20 synths and deleting each one minimizes the cpu around 3 percent (average). Is there a way to for the vsti's to be off when not activated via midi?

Yeah right-click on the instrument in step sequencer and select "smart disable". If that option isn't there, check the wrapper dropdown in the top-left corner of the instrument window, it should be in one of those two places.

Or easier to go: Tools > Macros > Switch Smart Disable for all Plugins

And that takes care of that for good.

In terms of buffer sizes... I haven't really messed with that, sorry.
