As a plaid fanboy I'm not too excited about the new album. I was a bigger fan of prints. The new one reminds me of spokes, which is my least fav album of theirs. My all time fav is a tie between double figure and rest proof clockwork. Much more melodic and dense. Digging remedy seems to be simplicity for simplicity's sake.

Hmm, confused! This doesn't really have anything in common with windowlicker that I can hear (referring to the track in the OP). It sounds much more like his very early stuff - SAW 1 era (except it's much cleaner - not being recorded straight to cassetteNumanoid wrote:How can you not like CheetahT2 (Ld Spectrum) ?![]()
That is a very funky track, in the classic AFX "windowlicker" stylee
Having listened through the ep.. I think he's trolling his fans again with mostly out and out rubbish - just as with Syro lol.

Most of the tapes I have sounds really good on my sound system, but I have a quality tape deck and amp.
I don't agree with that at all, tapes sound like crap weather they are metal or type 2, whatever. Records on the other hand sound better than CDs. I would never invest in a tape setup myself. Of course this is my opinion...If you really want good tape sound invest in a reel to reel.
btw I believe tapes made a comeback because a lot of people now collect old 80s boomboxes and they want tapes for them. Some of those old boomboxes go for well over 1K now.

At least Syro had 4 tracks that I liked... But this EP is probably made by the same 12 years old kid that made the 'video'.do_androids_dream wrote:Having listened through the ep.. I think he's trolling his fans again with mostly out and out rubbish - just as with Syro lol.

To me this song sounds like a lot of the music made by KVR folks. I don't think it's terrible just not my style.

That's 4 more than I liked lol. Aphex went off the boil for me around '96. That's when it seemed like he didn't have much to say anymore. I think I found 1 track I liked in the whole of the Analord series. I did like most The Tuss ep though - that seemed inspired.e@rs wrote:At least Syro had 4 tracks that I liked... To like AFX is to unexpect the expected.do_androids_dream wrote:That's 4 more than I liked lol. Aphex went off the boil for me around '96. That's when it seemed like he didn't have much to say anymore.
I prefer his new stuff over old stuff like SAWII that sounds dated now

It is give and take: Problem with vinyl records is when you buy for example The Orb's adventures beyond the ultraworld in original pressing and find that they have put almost 30 minutes of music on each sideATS wrote:Records on the other hand sound better than CDs.
Don't tell me that sounds better on vinyl than CD

I believe that is a fake track - one of many on the 'tube - as has become tradition now when he releases something new..Numanoid wrote:Me too now, dunno if I have been listening to the correct trackdo_androids_dream wrote:Hmm, confused! Will the real Slim Shady please stand up
If this is the correct CheetahT2 LD Spectrum track, then I completely agree with you, it sounds absolutely cack, horrible 4 to the floor kick, the fake one is miles better

Bleep put the MS800 on a pedestal
The EP could be AFX way to show how impenetrable it is

mr. james .. ahhh...
when he is good he is very good. ( come to daddy, windowlicker etc.). when he is bad.. well, it's just anodyne and bland. he seems to be pretty promiscuous in what he releases, usually under the anonymity of a plethora of aliases. i.e. for every diamond there is a lot of cheap sounding fluff.
stuff which sounds like it was made ten years ago. stuff you might try and dance to (good luck with that).. but most don't merit a revisit on headphones the main problem is he has been superceded. druqs for me was the point i started to feel that the hype was just that, surviving on a reputation . half very good, half.. not so.
don't get me wrong he is a pioneer and he has released classic stuff, richard d james album is pretty flawless in my opinion, but again there's a lot of beautiful structure there i just don't get from stuff like analord ( i like maybe 1 track enough to listen to again. it sounds like something i would have done on a yamaha with auto-accompaniment in the 90s. even then it was retro and utterly forgettable. and don't get me started on syro ( again a few stand out tracks and a lot of filler. the amen break is on three tracks that illuminates the problem i have with aphex, he seems happy to release stuff that is basically him bashing minipops or old casio for 15 minutes. the technique might be amazing, he is the only guy who can stand next squarepusher for micro-editing and insane glitchiness but the difference between the two is the latter is very musical on the whole, and aphex, apart from the odd beautiful gem but mainly non-nondescript and forgetful stuff. ( one of my fav albums is "Surfing on Sine waves" i look at the release date and that was a long time ago, 1993. that was an amazing game changer at a time when we were saturated by homogenized dance music only a few really setting the pace. I would add records like Orbital's Green (1st album) and LFO's "Frequencies' - (still sounds fresh today. It's a tragedy that Mark Bell died so no more of that and no more co-producing Bjork).
i agree with the Plaid recommend, still leading the pack in not only sound but melody, gorgeous and crystalline, those boys 'own' it.. anyway, that's just my two pence.
