Just clicking around in my Waves account and noticed something fishy about how "WUP" is calculated.

MM Delay costs $10 to WUP on its own:

MM Tone Shaper costs $10 to WUP on its own:

Yet they cost $21.40 to WUP together:

How does that even work? Seriously.

If you WUP the delay alone it extended till 27 june 2017 for $10 while together with the other plugin it is extended till 02 february 2018. So i think the price increase when you WUP more then one plugin and get a longer WUP period as a consequence. Could be?

Ahhh OK - so they calculate one year from the plugin with the latest date, cover them all up to the same new date.. and then charge you the difference in cost of the other plugins playing catch-up.

And I know I don't need additional WUP for anything because well... when was the last time they actually updated L1 Ultramaximizer? 1995? heh.

But you need it if you want to sell things, unfortunately. It's like a tax on stupidity.. in this case my stupidity. Damn you Waves.

For interests' sake I'm still clicking around in the WUP scam, I mean, system

and it's $377 to WUP 25 plugins. I thought it was capped at $300 and I don't own any bundles. Well, whatever. Clicking individually or in smaller bunches I can get the price down under $300. Interesting...

i can't get a straight answer from waves or the net.

is it just for updates or will my plugins stop to work after awhile ?

It's simple.
WUP is an update subscription plan. Your plugins will work after the subscription is up but you won't get any updates after it expires.

Look at the photos.

The delay alone goes to June 27, 2017.

The Tone shaper alone goes to Feb 2, 2018.

When you do both then they both go to Feb 2, 2018. That means that you are getting just over 7 more months on the delay then when you do it alone.

You are paying $1.40 for 220 more days of WUP on the delay. That's a pretty damn good deal.

That's still untrue. And has been discussed here many, many times.

If you have a version 9 license and WUP exprires, you still get all version 9 updates for free. I started using waves when version 9 was released and I can still install any update.

If your WUP is current by the time version 10 is released, you'll benefit from all version 10 updates.

..also you won't get any new plugins if they're added to a bundle you may have & you are not covered by WUP...

OP here. Obviously I didn't "WUP" any of my Waves plugins - it's a week's salary just to buy into this scheme that an update MIGHT happen in the next 12 months to 20 odd plugins. Going by history, Waves rarely update any plugin with additional features - even decades old plugins. So this WUP business is only useful for the large (ie: Mercury) bundle owners when new plugins are added.

I'm just going to forget about WUP and use the plugins as long as I can. Maybe one day, many years after the introduction of 128-bit plugins, 64-bit will become obsolete... that is the only point at which i can imagine needing to WUP. If they all break with Windows 11 then so be it. Fear sells?

As explained, the maximum of $300 "capped" is easily exceeded because some plugins get additional "WUP" coverage added to their already extended coverage. Instead of rewarding you for extending that coverage, you are basically penalised.

They should really give you an option to pull all the individual staggered expiring dates to one date that falls within the WUP range for your plugins - instead of automatically extending everything else upto the date of the most up-to-date WUP (and therefore charging you extra).

You read again- it's a subscription plan for update coverage. After it expires you're no longer covered. I don't know much planer it can be said..
