I've seen posts where the authors state that:
"SX2 Rocks. Light years ahead of VST5.1! "
Can the same be said for SL2 as I'm considering it instead since I have just bought the M-audio Pro-88 controller and am running low on money.
Also, should I wait for SX3 or is that light years away??

Absolutely. I just moved from Win98SE+Logic Audio to XP Pro + Cubase SL 2 and I'm quite impressed with the stability and features in SL. Having read through the SL manual in some detail, I can honestly say there is not much that is SX-specific that I regret not having. While money is not itself a big constraint for me at the moment, I don't like the idea of paying for features I'll never (or rarely) use. This is the case with SL2.

i have a chance, due to my ownership of my EMU 1820m soundcard, to upgrade to cubase SL2 for 200 bucks.
what does SX2 have that SL2 is missing??
i wonder how much it is to go from SL2 to SX2...
could be worth it to follow that path depending on how much SX 2 is originally.

WOW
holy crap!!!
not much difference for what i need it for...
Inserts SL: 5 SX: 8
hmm, that is ok, i could always use a chainer or something...
Adaptive and configurable track mixer / Extended Mixer view
not quite sure what this means but sx 2 doesnt have it...
Surround: True multichannel audio path
not doing anything like this, so no biggie if i dont have it...
Offline Process History
SL:
for built-in audio
processes
SX:
for built-in
audioprocesses and
all plug-ins
hmm, that could be a let down.. not really sure tho.
Professional Score layout and printing functions
again, dont really use it, so no biggie.
Spectral Analysis
Statistics functions
these could come in handy, but i usually use plugins for spectral analysis anyway... wonder what stats it means?/?
Pitch Shifting/Time Stretching algorithm SL: 3 modes SX: 3 modes +MPEX
dont use it much... FLstudio would do the time streching for me likeky..
Dithering SL: Apogee UV22
SX:
Apogee
UV22/UV22HR
ummm, no biggie again...
Windows Media WMA Pro surround encoding
pfff.. as if.

o yeah... 128 physical inputs instead of sx 256.. not sure what "physical inputs" means, but if it means inputs from the soundcard, i have a max of 20 in anyway so i think im covered.

SL2 do indeed rule.
Their seminal oldschool rave track "on a ragga tip" was a classic in about 1992, and influenced many tracks of the era.
Sorry, i couldn't resist

I think you misunderstood my question. Or you never heard of Cubase? I find that hard to believe.

As SL2 they were inded a one-hit wonder i think, although DJ Slipmatt (the S in SL2) was a popular DJ in the 90's and i think he's may even still play now.CypherOne wrote:peppy197 it was just a joke - SL2 were a one hit wonder of the early 90s (correct me if I'm wrong everyone else).
