After reading that other thread, I'm thinking that a temp upgrade of my CURRENT system might actually be more worthwhile in the long run--

If I'm comfortable with it and it gives me enough extra juice, I don't HAVE to upgrade to Athlon 64...

AND, if I do, the money spent now will likely be regained at least in part by the time I get a new system-- between the price drops in the mobo and the CPU, it could very well balance out.

Well, I just ordered up my athlon64 system. Pricematch at ncix worked wonders :)

I got:
MSI K8N NEO PLATINUM NFORCE3 250GB S754 5PCI SATA 1394 SOUND 1000LAN
+
AMD ATHLON 64 3000+ PROCESSOR S754 2.0GHZ 512KB L2 CACHE RETAIL BOX
for $391 cdn before tax. ncix's regular price would have been $442.

Now to just find a buyer for my old p4...

Good work!!!! :D

You'll have to remember who you price-matched to so that I can lure them into a bargain, too. ;) That's if you're willing to share the fruits of your labour.

A new Sonata case and PSU would add another $110 or so on top of that, but many of the rest of my parts would port over until I could afford more (ie. an extra drive).
