Disappointed by Aphex Twin--what to do?

In general, I find the more the hype surrounding a release, the worse the record is. This appears to have been the case of Aphex Twin's most recent "Cheetah EP" concept. While the self-imposed limitation of using only an MS800 for tone generation is intriguing, it doesn't yield too much that cannot be obtained elsewhere.
After this reaction, I contemplated what essentially attracts me to electronic music. Personally, I love hearing new timbres and music ideas together. The sheer creativity of inventing/using new sounds and musical ideas is esoterically pleasing.
It seems that Squarepusher had taken up where Aphex left off and blended this perfectly for several albums. When he began experimenting with more of the mundane...I lost interest. Nothing against Tom Jenkinson whatsoever. He is a respectable artist and truly ought to have the freedom to experiment as he likes. At the same time, I have my own cravings for a perpetually unsatisfied appetite for new music, so where to turn?
Plaid and Clark generally have regularly produced innovative and compelling sonically musical ideas over time. For example, Ableton has a story about Kyoka I read a few minutes ago. Her work is somewhat an extrapolation of what Aphex has done and yet she approaches things independently. A thoroughly enjoyable listen so far.
My main question, then, is where to turn for creative, experimental, yet enjoyable music? Because I value the variety of tastes within KVR, I'd love to have your recommendations.

Holly Herndon is pretty interesting... In line with the glitchy, experimental stuff, but still straddles the line of catchy, listenable songwriting.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

I think, this guy is good at combining highly experimental IDMish approach with enjoyable harmonies and melodies, you may find something for your liking here

True, true, I have admittedly not given it much of a shot yet. I ought to contribute there myself.

Reminds me somewhat of Roel Funcken, e.g.:

Maybe this one could appeal to you. It is one of my favourite albums in this genre.

Really love The Gasman. To me it's like he took over where Aphex left off. Ital Tek is good as well. Also, hope this isn't too obvious, but Venetian Snares and mu-ziq.
Also could try Jega, Jake Mandell for some good old-school IDM.

A well-behaved signature.

Nice, this covers territory that I wish Mike Pardinas had gone into following µ-Ziq's "Lunatic Harness."sbj wrote:Maybe this one could appeal to you. It is one of my favourite albums in this genre.

Venetian Snares is so great because it's the musical equivalent of watching a good horror film. µ-Ziq is one of my faves as well. I'll surely give your recommendations a solid listen as we appear to have similar preferences. Thanks!JerGoertz wrote:Really love The Gasman. To me it's like he took over where Aphex left off. Join the club. Haven't liked anything of his since drukqs. He should've gone out on a high note. His mixes of late have been awful and the music is uninspiring.

I'm very disappointed too. And did the only rational thing one can do in this situation...
...I went back to my 2 Unlimited CDs.
