Is Sylenth still relevant in 2016?

Ok so here's the deal. My friend has u-He Hive, and he's almost religious about it. Though I always wanted to get Sylenth. But after so much years, Lennar Digital only last year released a new version (and only new UI and 64 bit for Mac), while u-He stuff is constantly updated. Tried the demo of Sylenth and Hive, Hive has this modern sounding presets, ready to do the next EDM hit, though I'm more into deep house. For some reason I still keep looking at Sylenth because of the popularity. So should I stop looking at Sylenth and maybe give Hive a run for the money instead?

Here are a bunch of songs made for the Hive OSC, check them out and decide for yourself. It can do way more than just EDM

There are better VST plugins, for sure..just not as prominent, relevant or popular as that. So yes, still alive and kicking hard. It's a safe bet. But..in the end, it's really what sounds best to you, what you like the most. Don't forget to also try DUNE 2 and/or Spire.

I have both and I like them both. Hive and Sylenth have each own sounding character, all though they are similar in capability. The only good way for you to make a judgement is to install demo versions of these 2 synths and test them out. Which one of these synths are the better one is just a matter of your own personal opinion. You can't go wrong with any of them. They are both really great synths.
I know my post may not be very helpful in selecting one but this is my honnest oppinion anyway. Other people will for sure argue for the one they love the most.

Both will get the job done for deep house, or any just about other subgenre of dance music that you throw at it. The rest is just personal preference. They're both excellent synths, but I have a little more preference for Hive because I prefer its GUI/layout. That said, if I was primarily a preset user, I'd probably prefer Sylenth1 because it has far more third-party banks available for it.
Perfect. So, which one clicked with you the most? There's your answer.Virgiauskas wrote:Tried the demo of Sylenth and Hive,

Well... i could tell you now that i'd pick Spire over both of these. I could also tell you that Sylenth1 is still the no. 1 pick for trance and EDM producers, according to sites which harvest Facebook or Twitter plugin endorsements of famous artists, and that Hive, according to those, never really launched off in the EDM "scene", or that i never really liked Hive's sound, because i find it too harsh and metallic... or, the best, you could find out all of that yourself, simply by demoing both, or the other synths suggested here.
Seriously, and this is a well meant, and urgent suggestion, if you're on the fence about shelling out ~ 150 € for a software synthesizer, don't listen to anyone, but your own about whether a synth suits you or not. Maybe we people here can give you a suggestion about the features of a synth, or on what it's best used for, but in the end, you have to decide whether it SOUNDS good to you or not. Noone will be able to suggest sound to you, we all just can suggest what sounds best to US, not you. I bought a couple of plugin which others suggested were "the sh**", turned out that i parted with those after a very short time, simply because i'm a fool for not demoing those properly, or doing an impulse buy, because i was so excited about the plugin on the first day of demoing it. It's not good, and you feel really bad having bought something so valuable, and having no use for it.
So, only can recommend to demo and demo to see if you really like the sound. Sylenth1 might not be for you, if you like Hive. Or vice versa. Maybe you like both, and it will be a hard decision. Who knows.

Only you can answer that, but Sylenth is still in the game and Hive didn't changed that a bit, would go for sure thing here, so Sylenth, if you want to be compatible with your buddy, than yeah, Hive could do, other way around, Sylenth is pretty much relevant as always and I would give it without blinking to anyone knowing they would have easier time in their sound quests because of so many sound banks and tutorials around.

I tried Dune, but I got Serum instead. And Hive/Sylenth I narrowed for myself because of the simplicity of them. Yeah, Spire is next choice.Yorrrrrr wrote:There are better VST plugins, for sure..just not as prominent, relevant or popular as that. So yes, still alive and kicking hard. It's a safe bet. The simple answer is yes. It's still relevant. People still use it.
If that's your criteria for buying a synth, I don't know what to tell you. For me, it's how it sounds (for personal use) and how much programming I can do for it (for business use) and sometimes the two intersect and I get lucky.
Ultimately, you have to sit down and decide what it is you want a synth for. Is it to have sounds that are relevant or is it to have sounds that you actually like?
Sometimes the two do not go together.

Yes, you need the same synths than.Dasheesh wrote:Being that all today's music is the same track over and over and over again.... does it matter?

Going to agree with those who are saying Sylenth is only as relevant as your ears think it is. Though, personally, if you're torn between Hive and Sylenth i'd recommend Hive. Simply because there are more modulation possibilities. Not extremely familiar with Deep House but from what i have heard of the genre Hive can pull it off. It may not be as popular as Sylenth, but it's still a powerful tool.
However, if you aren't into or don't have time to program your own sounds Sylenth may be the way to go as there are a lot more third party patches for it. Almost certain there are Deep House sound sets for it as well.

Pretty much sums it up, close the thread.DubLifeSD wrote:Absolutely relevant. Still sounds great, super low cpu, easy to program, and about a million preset banks floating around.
