i was listening to a collaboration recently and from the continuity of elements discerned that each artist had passed their finished song onto the next before composition. i remember we used to do "artist jams" drawing comic books in school where each person had a day or so to do a page and pass it on.

and i thought, i haven't noticed this kind of exercise happening here. i think the idea is a fair opportinity to practice, as it gives you something objective to react to/elaborate upon, and gives some more intrigue than a themed compilation.

of course, a fixed duration of a day, a week, may not be appropriate for music, and there's the option to hear only one previous work (like "chinese whispers") or the entirety of precedents. are resources (patches, data) passable or must each participant have their own resources to respond to timbres and such. the model also allows for other criteria, such as a theme, and perhaps even the interest of arranging which musicians respond to whom, and the fun of what happens to the album as property and broadcast.

eg. a noise/timbre chain album encouraging sub-1 minute lengths might result in a fairly dense playback aurality and all. also prat league editions might be "interesting", eg. among 10+ year kvr members.

I like this idea. I think what would improve it is a well thought out system for adding new parts. Perhaps as parts are added, the previous contributors vote on the preferred additions (assuming there are multiple contributors). By the end of the arrangement all participants should have a composition they are happy to have been a part of.

Drums only (Drummer decides which bass track he likes from those submitted)
Drums and Bass (2 contributors to decide which bass track he likes from those submitted)
Drums, Bass and Synth (3 contributors to decide which bass track he likes from those submitted)

...... and so on. Anyway, that's just my thoughts. Great idea.

Seems a bit different to me. A bunch of people collaborating versus one element added at a time and then passed forward to the next potentials.

each segment of that collaboration was accomplished in a different manner ...
