Is Sylenth still relevant in 2016?

Yes, it´s a bit strange....especially because he searched for a new synth in another thread!recursive one wrote:Wagtunes, when you say that character of a synth is not relevant, you are shooting yourself in the foot. What's the difference between you as a sound designer and a randomizer knob then? The art of sound design is taking a synth and making it show its best, it is much more than just assigning few modulations and tweaking a couple of random knobs. Knowing the character of a synth is utterly important.
Paradox!

You win. There is no way to distinguish exactly what synths those are. They definitely sound very different whether they be from the same synth or different ones. When this is all over and everyone comes to a peaceful agreement, please list them. Thanks.wagtunes wrote:Hey you guys are all so smart, which synth is which?
I'm still waiting.

That isn't what I'm saying. Of course every synth has a character. As Fluffy pointed out, each of the bass synths in my example sounded different. A couple did sound very similar, but for the most part, each bass sound was different.recursive one wrote:Wagtunes, when you say that character of a synth is not relevant, you are shooting yourself in the foot. That is not my point.
My point was, in the context of the music, you can't tell which synth I'm using. I mean if each synth has such a truly unique, which is not the same as different, character, why doesn't each synth in that mix scream out "I'm XYZ Synth."
It doesn't because with all the "differences" there are many similarities. You can't say there aren't. The nature of conventional synthesis itself makes synths similar in sound.
So why do we have different synths?
Is it because we want to put one in a mix and have somebody say "I recognize that synth. That's a Moog Modular" or whatever the synth is. No, we put a synth in a mix because we "believe" it is the best synth for that part.
That "belief" is based on more things than just the sound alone. It could be CPU use, if we're making a mix with tons of VSTs. It could be ease of use. It could be that it has a built in sequencer and we're too lazy to drag out our external.
Yes, synths sound different to an extent until we start processing the hell out of them. That's when the lines start to blur.
And ALL of this varies to numerous degrees depending on what kind of sound we're talking about.
Bells
Bass
Pads
Leads
Strings
Organs
Poly Synths
ARPs
And on and on.
I can't even begin to tell you how many times I'll be doing a track and it's time to pick out a bass sound and I'm like "Sheesh, which one of these 50 different synths that all make great basic Moog like bass sounds should I use?"
That doesn't mean they all sound exactly the same. It means they're all essentially interchangeable in the grand scheme of things unless you want to get so nit picky about how a sawtooth looks in an analyzer to find the one that's most "true."
I don't fuss about things like that. I know some people do. And those people will absolutely choose one synth over another. As a businessman, I have to understand that. I have to recognize that some people will use Mini V, some Monark, some Diva and some Blue 2 to make their bass sounds and make sets for ALL those synths.
That doesn't mean that I have to agree that the sound of Diva is so distinct that you can tell it apart from any other synth on the planet.
My demo above proves that because so far not ONE person has been able to pick out even ONE synth out of those 24.
It's not being hypocritical. It's being realistic.
Do I need another new synth to make music? No. There is nothing out there that sounds so radically different and can do things that no other synth can come close to doing that I need to get it.
But...there are people out there who ARE going to get it.
As a smart businessman, I have to recognize that and get that synth, especially if it's a big seller.
Again, it's not being hypocritical. It's being realistic and a good businessman.

So what is the reason for this thread?wagtunes wrote: Do I need another new synth to make music? No. There is nothing out there that sounds so radically different and can do things that no other synth can come close to doing that I need to get it.

Is it like a fait accompli or trick thread, where you at the end can say that you don't really need a new synth anyhow

I made it very clear. The thread was to find a synth to make presets for to sell, period.Numanoid wrote:So what is the reason for this thread?wagtunes wrote: Do I need another new synth to make music? Clear?wagtunes wrote:I made it very clear. The thread was to find a synth to make presets for to sell, period.
Nothing is stated about that in OP in that other thread

It's right here my friend.Numanoid wrote:Clear?wagtunes wrote:I made it very clear. The thread was to find a synth to make presets for to sell, period.

Learn to read.In short, I'm out of ideas. Maybe there isn't even anything left that fits the requirements and isn't something I already own or have ruled out. Hopefully, somebody here knows of something that's been under the radar, fits the requirements, and is popular enough to make doing a library for worth while.

No, it's not about sound banks. it's about somebody recommending me a synth that I don't have in order to MAKE sound banks.Numanoid wrote:But if it is about soundbanks you posted it in the wrong sub-forum.wagtunes wrote:Learn to read.

Yes exactly.fluffy_little_something wrote:I doubt there are synths that are both under the radar, yet at the same time popular enough to make sound sets for
A Google search doesn't let everybody know they own 400,000 million synths.
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

No you better stop trolling, telling me to learn to read, and then coming up with such bullsh*t explanationwagtunes wrote:No, it's not about sound banks. it's about somebody recommending me a synth that I don't have in order to MAKE sound banks.Numanoid wrote:But if it is about soundbanks you posted it in the wrong sub-forum.wagtunes wrote:Learn to read.

Irrelevant. I've bought some synths that my libraries hardly sold at all and some that sold very well. It's all hit and miss. You take your best guess and live with it.Mushy Mushy wrote:Yes exactly.fluffy_little_something wrote:I doubt there are synths that are both under the radar, yet at the same time popular enough to make sound sets for

The flip side is, if I don't buy any synths because I don't know how popular they are then I go out of business.
