ehh if i was still entering I'd have preferred bimonthly competitions.. more time to write a song and more time to vote..

but then again I gave up on the kvr contests.. just wasnt fun at all imo... far too disorganized and vague to be a serious competition yet the style and voting schemes made it a bit too structured to be a 'just for the heck of it' type event..

at least thats my opinion :P

Now before anyone comes in shouting that I never enter them and telling me to shut up, i'd like to mention I know I never enter, there are 3 of us work on the Dan Island stuff and between us all we can only manage about 4 songs per year and I won't shup up so....

I'm only being devils advocate here and ask if maybe the competition should be held maybe 3 times per year, and then it could be an event with maybe some decent prizes and a chance for people to give it a real go.

I'll leave it there for comments.

Jeez... what entries were you listening too?... Just been listening to the entries this month and there are some f**king good entries in there! Far better than mine!,... Spyros, DaveSpiers, krims to name a few...

Admitidely some are a bit raw, but surely that's the very nature of the competition full of (learning) amateur song writers and producers. How are we amateurs going to learn unless we have a competitions like this as a forum to try out new techniques and improve our skills... It's mainly the competition at the moment that is driving my production skills forward!... always trying to push things one better, so maybe next month I might win... ;)

So I say keep it as it is... Informal, fun and monthly.

having posted something in the contest this month for the first time, i feel somehow partly responsible for this thread!

i'd be the first to admit i'm at the bottom of a learning curve in certain areas (and at my age that's quite an achievement!) but i am heartened by the general mood here i.e. the fun factor combined with the constructive criticism/feedback slant that KvR provides us 'novices'. and i have to say it has only just ocurred to me that the word 'contest' is actually being used here - i'd somehow overlooked that fact, buoyed along i believe by the cheerfulness of this site. i'll go and take a look at the prize is now, just out of curiosity :!:

I've never entered a competition at KvR (too scared), so I don't know what value I can add to the discussion. I've listened to a few entries and all I can say is that I don't think quality is an issue at all.

Also, the comps seem to generate plenty of chatter and sometimes some pretty cool prizes.

So I vote keep the comps and one day I might get the bottle up to enter :)

even the worst produced tune can still have some great ideas, you can usually find something good in a tune.

and as many have said, its fun.

plus you get a kick when someone who's tunes you like votes for you or comments on your track.

as someone mentioned you don't have to enter every month, or even at all.

cheers,

steve.

yeah, but I've heard Krim's entry, so I've got no hope....(not that it's all about winning). Errm, I must think of a better excuse, I'll get back to you.
