...to be fair, as a bundle that's aiming to offer something for everyone, it's only logical that everybody would use everything from Komplete. It's still the best bundle with some of the best instruments on the market. And the longer you have Komplete you might be using its content more and more - that's what I like about it. But I agree, that Ultimate isn't probably the most attractive option, considering it's even more overwhelming than Komplete Standard, the upgrade price is quite high (even more if one isn't interested in the new additions) and, as there's so much content, its price may rise over time. I wonder where such an upward spiral might end - maybe into a subscription model

I have mixed feelings about the new synths. I think their recent Reaktor synths are very interesting and I like that they're specialised instead of trying to be the synth that can do everything. What worries me is the fact that, since they're rather *simple* (yet powerful) synths, the accessability with their controllers (Maschine, Kontrol S) isn't convincing - though I know that mapping an entire synths to knob controllers isn't easy and not always even smart tbh.

Some controls/layouts are indeed better used with a mouse, but when I look at a synth like Rounds (which I think is such a brillant design and has the potential for being a synth of choice for a lot of people) and then I see that NI has just mapped the macro and sequencer controls (the rest isn't available for automation, unless you redesign the ensemble), I need to take a really deep breath. Also, the communication between Reaktor and their controllers in general seem to need a lot of improvement. Form also looks really interesting, but again I wonder what else than its four macro parameters are mapped to their controllers (maybe they should work on a touch screen device). And it also worries me a bit, that it bites off a chunk of Absynth's features - a few months ago I heard a podcast with Brian Clevinger and he's still working for NI, but I wonder, if it's still Absynth.

Seriously reduced at a sixth to a tenth the size of the full versions.

100 bucks (plus/minus) extra for mostly the same content... and on top, people cannot buy komplete 10 (if they want to) during august (which is rather strange business wise) and buy the extra instruments later on in september e.g.

Speaking for myself, i don't need/want una corda, nor india... so 11 has little to offer ontop of 10 offering (especially for the 100 bucks extra).. but 10 is not available anymore (i missed the sale, because of circumstances... but am willing to pay the 10 normal price, if they would let me)...

I started re-adjusting my upgrading a couple of cycles ago. The lack of truly "essential" new stuff (for me, at least) means that I really can afford to wait until the usual 1/2 off upgrade option 8 - 10 months into the cycle. Nothing here looks essential. The one new tool that I would have wanted I already picked up for $50 on sale (the new Acoustic Guitar instrument). So I'm good for now.

Kontakt 6 might have moved me off the dime, but alas, 'twas not to be.

What a huge load of crap. Especially the Symphony Series Essential is a big time joke: 1 mic position, no true legato, massively reduced articulations and not even an upgrade from Essential to full version. NI really delivered shit here for Ultimate users coming from Ultimate 10. All that for 399€? No thanks, not even for 50% off. Let's hope for Komplete 12.

Is there a crossgrade price? I don't have my desktop handy, and it never showed the crossgrade option on mobile, even there definitely was a crossgrade option (for Reaktor owners).

There was some discussion at gearslutz about a Survey Ni sent related to subscription service. No mention still on NI site.

Given the price and upgrade cycle of komplete I would pay 100 USD yearly for Komplete as long as they included new stuff as it is released.

$65 tops is what I'd pay for an annual subscription.

Re: upgrade.
This upgrade only works for users of KOMPLETE 11 SELECT, KOMPLETE KONTROL S-SERIES keyboards, MASCHINE 2 software (included with MASCHINE STUDIO, and new purchases of MASCHINE and MASCHINE MIKRO) or KONTAKT 1-5.
No cross grade option, as there had been previously. I guess I'll just update Reaktor to 6 and be done with NI for a while. I don't really need all the other stuff in Komplete 11, just Reaktor and FM8.

Kontakt 6 will happen, licensing is a nice revenue stream for NI, the rest, unlikley unless they are all ported to Reaktor, NI does not make standalone software anymore, Reaktor patches and libraries, and most of those are from 3rd parties, they can't even update Maschine on a regular basis, and that is one of their biggest ever sellers.

Yes, agreed all round. I don't think "bloatware" is a fair term for Ultimate really, because its nearly all good stuff - Bloatware suggests products which a pretty useless to everyone. You just have to accept that you personally are unlikely to use all of it, even half of it or more, but it still represents great value.

All that said, it really is slim pickings for existing Ultimate owners. The orchestral stuff is severely paired down making it near-redundant for serious use. Emotive Strings seems like an ill-conceived product, which just leaves Replika XT. Everything else is in regular - which isn't accessible as an upgrade to Ultimate owners. Personally I think the regular upgrade is pretty fair, but Ulimate is, as Vic used to say, very poor.

Actually though, I think the biggest disappointment for me is not in the bundle per se, it's in the lack of apparent development for Kontrol. The screen shots on the NI site look identical to the existing version - the same functionally useless, appallingly executed mess that has been with us since day one. It beggars belief that Kore was abandoned 5 years ago now, and this is still light years away from that old tech. I can't really get over that you can't see what presets belong to which library when searching, and there's no way to sort them, meaning casual browsing is like wading through treacle. Mixed with molasses. You can't even resize the window, or search for more than one library - it's one or all. Awful. I just don't get it. So what should be the centrepiece of Komplete, the software that can make everything integrate... it looks like it's had a couple of days development all-in, then they got bored.

I just saw the list of "what's new" and noticed that Reaktor 6 is on that list. Wasn't R6 in Komplete 10? What version am I currently using?

Reaktor 5 is in every version of Komplete from 3-10. Komplete 11 is the first one to include Reaktor 6.
