Thanks, I guess it should be the same for Win.
If after, say, 5 months I decide that I want to own Serum right now may I pay [the retail price - 50 USD] and have a full license? This is not entirely clear from the Splice site.

yes , you have serum every month until you reached 189$ , when you will have paid 189 $ you will reveice a full licence of serum for free.
if you want your serum in 5 month , you will have already paid 50 $ so you will have to paid 139$ (189-50) to have your full licence.

Anyway, I have noticed, when I logged in Windows, the Splice icon flashed for a second and disappeared, so it might be checking or starting! I don't know. Anyway, I don't have any problem with it
Yes, there are two services running with Splice name. They keep running for a long time, and they maxed my disk 100% for more than 10 mins!! I then clicked on the icon, and saw many projects from different DAWs ..etc. So, it seems it scans my document folder or something. No nice IMO, because it didn't ask me to do that!
Anyway, I could go to preferences and disabled starting with my PC and I quit it. Then it was OK, the disk wasn't that busy, and Serum could be run normally in my DAW. It should have been easier/more friendly! I almost uninstalled Splice and Serum from my PC, because it was the fourth restart and it kept the same (maxing the disk usage!). I hope it won't do anything when I restart next time!

I believe thats part of the other services splice offers, cloud based services.
E.g. storage, collaboration etc. Thats why it scans your projects, so you can
upload them to the cloud and keep them in sync if you want. Also part of
the sample based services. None of which are necessary for the serum thing.
Just turn it off...

Windows 10hivkorn wrote:wich version of windows are your running ? it works like a charm under osx 10.10.x and cubase pro...
Yes, I thought so. It is off now. I restarted the PC and it's not running (the service). Serum is fine running also. But damn the presets are not nice at all! I mean maybe only 10 or 20 are really nice! They give the impression that Serum is only for very harsh/digital sound which is not really! In few mins I could do nice vintage lead and bass! It really sounds great but it needs doing your presets from scratch unless you want that harsh soundpekbro wrote:I believe thats part of the other services splice offers, cloud based services.

Yes, those are fine examples of how warm and sweet can Serum sound. Pity that the factory presets are mostly geared towards the dubstep crowd, while it is very well capable of other different sounds.

Mr. Hollo makes some great sounds, but i wouldn't call that particularly "warm". Rather like the other stuff i've heard from Serum so far, rather clinical, cold, and cutting. But then, not every synth has to sound warm. For example, Z3TA 2 does some of the nicest cold deep space i've heard so far from a synth.
