What time signature would you play this in?

Chords, scales, harmony, melody, etc.

Hey guys,

Working on a new track and I realized from the start it's not 4/4. But trying to figure it out so I can write out the sheet music. 3/4 is what it sounds/feels like but seems like 6/4 would also work. Not sure if one makes more sense than the other. It's a pretty straight beat just not 100% sure how to count it. Both seem to work.

Thanks,

hehe yeah its throwing me a little bit too :/ 12/6 makes sense just hate counting 12/6 time. Fortunately I play mostly by feel just need to get it right for the musicians actually playing the piece :P

Doesn't 12/8 work too? ugh why are time signatures so easy yet difficult for me :P I understand them I just have trouble counting out more complicated signatures. Probably because I compose and produce and don't practice as much as I should :P

Edit:

So when I play it on piano I am counting like this:

Cm A Bb Bb
1+2+3+ 1+2+3+ 1+2+3+ !+2+3+

Which is 3/4 right?

Yeah. 12/8 works too, as does 4/4 ... :help:

What would you personally play it in? Or what instrument would you follow for your count? I feel more of a 4/4 from the drums then anything else. Maybe that's what is throwing it in my ears.

Here's an upload with no drums.

Thanks again,

Okay so that would count out as:
Cm A Bb Bb
1+2+3+4+ 1+2+ 1+2+3+4+ 1+2+

is that correct? Would it make sense to go back and alter the structure to put it in a more common time or leave it as is?

Thanks,
Kevin

Edit: just realizing the chord spacing format isn't working on all devices. But basically the changes come on the 1 beats.

If you like the way it is musically speaking, see no reason doing it.
You'r the boss.

Okay thank you.

And yeah I know I'm the boss :P one nice thing about composing and producing. But you're right there's nothing wrong with it and to my ears I like the way it sounds so I will stick with it. Now just got to write the rest... haha

Thanks guys,
Kevin

Keep it simple. 3/4 or 6/4.

And…

12/6 is not a meter. Metric denominators are powers of two.

Thank you for chiming in. As I've developed this piece more I defenitly can see how moving it to 3/4 will save me headaches when I record this with real instruments.

Thanks,
Kevin
