The key words there are "medium priced".

Obviously the higher the price of the product the more people this plan will appeal to......

The thread title is "what do you think" and I think this particular deal is not for me. I would pay cash for such a small purchase just to avoid the hassle of keeping track of 19 months of payments and to avoid the need to install a third party app in order to take advantage of the payment plan. I'm not against the plan at all it just doesn't make sense for me....for this product.....

As I've said three times now........

$190 isn't "such a small purchase" to many. I am glad you are doing well though. :)

I don't know. I fall in and out of love with plugins. Sometimes it's just a one night stand

Last few months my whole world surrounded playing the linnstrument which is the only way I do midi. This month I'm not going to open a daw/host. I've got my variax in hand and all my playing time is devoted to getting my setlist down cold as I've got a few gigs lined up.

I just want to report that a new update was done today for Splice service in my PC.It seems reasonably light, so thanks to Matt and the Splice team for this update :)

Sorry Matt, it was an early beautiful sunny day, but now it is raining badly!

The scanning thing is always starting when Windows starts, I tried to add My Document folder and other folders to the ignore list in the preferences, but it is the same.

Anyway, I found a good compromise and setup (for now). In the preferences, I unchecked the "Launch Splice at Login", and then when I start Windows, from Splice website in my Profile settings, I click "Connect Now" in the Security section.
Now, when Splice service starts, it is no longer scans anything :) I'm not sure if I need to do this daily, I suppose every 3 days.

The only thing bugging me about this Splice thing is how it keeps telling me my Norton protection (indeed ANY protection) is off, when Norton tells me everything is running fine. A little suspicious there.

Otherwise, I'm having fun with the three day trial period. The thing for me is, Serum is cool, but I have the Nave vst, PPG Wavemapper and 'generator...Zebra, though it's not considered the same type of "wave synth".

Makes me wonder if I really need another synth like this, especially when I definitely prefer the sound overall of the others...I'll use the weekend to mess with Serum and decide.
Ha ha suck it!

For sure! I'd like to see stuff like Ozone and some of the more exoensive reverbs and mastering tools but hopefully this is just the beginning, i bet devs will be watching closely.

Anyway Serum definitely has something to it, the gui is brilliant and the wavetables sound great and the editing is really intuitive. Not even looked at the import yet but there's obviously loads of scope for sound design for which i can see it becoming a goto.

@Apostate just watching this, getting some great insight into how Serum works and what it's capable of.

Yes I learned quite a bit from the Serum instructional videos when I first bought the synth, in fact those early videos helped me understand more about modulation in general.

However, to my ears Serum doesn't have that physical presence (regardless of its impressive array of filters) of Zebra/HZ, XILS IV, or Diva; the sound that makes one feel as though an actual, analogue synth is in the room. I'd hoped, after having sold the synth over a year ago, something would have improved with this issue, and Steve is quite relentless in striving for improvement. But...whenever open Serum after having the aforementioned open, there's a definite flatness in comparison.

But hey, those are just my ears, and I'm a nobody anyway, so if you don't take what I say with a boulder of salt to begin with, don't hesitate now. I don't get the love, but then I'm not a fan of Synthmaster either. I guess that makes me an armchair iconoclast=not somebody worth listening to.

I must mention, Steve Duda offers absolutely impeccable support, and the LFO tool is quite simply one of the most useful tools in my DAW. I've found Nerve to be pretty fantastic as well, and it does indeed have that physical sound I mentioned earlier. A great-sounding drum machine.

I'll always equivocate my criticisms of Serum because Xfer is a great company, imo.
Ha ha suck it!

No worries Apostate, yeah it's not a warm sounding synth to my ears so i'm trying not to look at it as another va, already got that covered but what it can do that other synths can't.

Not totally in love with the filters or effects but sounds sweet with the drop loaded after it.

I watched that virus comparison video and was impressed, seems Serum is a closer alternative to synths like the virus and microwave?

I think the effects modulation possibilities might be my favorite aspect of Serum. You can really get an amazing groove going, even in odd times. I was messing around with 11/8 today and really liked what I could do. But then I opened up XILS IV and immediately heard that punchy presence...

But hey, it's been #1 and #2 on the polls for years now, so whadda I know.

In these few days, Serum has given me a hard lesson! Which is "Never, ever, judge a synth from it's presets!".

I have never imagined that one day Serum would become one of my favourite synths! This synth really shines when you begin to ignore the presets and start to do your own. It's the first time I do presets from scratch and I be fully satisfied with the results! It made me think that I can be a pro sound designer :hihi:

The only drawback about Serum, is the missing of easy to use arp/sequencer. But this is a minor thing because there are many 3rd party arpeggio tools.

I'm happy that I gave Serum a chance and delved into it with an open mind. Yesterday, I have spent a great time with Serum, Diva and Lush 101. I compared Serum with Icarus, Dune 2 and Massive. It is no less than those great synths and I preferred Serum because of the ease of reaching great results in a short time :)

I'm not sure it's right to compare Serum with Diva or other analogish synths! They are completely different tools IMO. There is little overlapping between them. I did, however, compared Lush 101 with Diva. They are in the same league and I love them both equally for great analog pads mostly.

As a result, I'm going ahead with Splice's plan :D

This is so true, goes for Serum, Largo, the PPG synths etc. as well. And Splice is a very cool way to pay for Serum. I just...I'm still working with it and just not finding anything I can do with it that I can't do with my abovementioned synths, and in my case with better sound (Nave and Zebra HZ being the best examples I can come up with for the latter).

However, it would be a super great first buy for a wave synth, that I'm positive of.

It does, ultimately, depend upon your individual workflow and vision for your music. It works for tons of people so, more power to them.

I went with Splice's plan, not because I needed a loan, but because I don't really NEED another synth right now, but Serum sounded interesting, even though it wasn't even on my radar a few days ago. I don't want a $200 one-time investment, and I don't even really think about $10/mo, so the plan is beneficial to me. :)
