It's 32 bit and looks like Synthedit. No thanks.

I see, yeah I dodn't read the spec. So does your comment indicate that you plan to join OSC again Steven?

Oh no, not at all. I just like checking out the threads. At most I'll be voting for the tracks like I did this month but no more OSCs for me.

Hey there One Synth Guys,

in the light of Soundcloud's plans to erase groups may I suggest to have two seperate threads for chat and submissions in the Forum - if it is not too much work for bj of course. This could make things more clear on the KVR side as any ordinary OSC produces easily 15 to 20 pages of contibutions of all kind.

What do you think?

How do you intend to stop people from chatting in submission threads? The job for the moderators will be a nightmare if they need to delete every non submission thread.

And then how exactly would you link the thread to the voting page? I'm not exactly sure how it's done now. For all I know, it could be a manual process, but not sure. But if it's a simple matter of posting the whole group to the voting page, I don't see how you're doing that from the forum.

And then what if somebody changes their track? You could have duplicates like crazy.

I just don't see this working. There aren't enough controls without creating a crap ton of work for the mods.

Seems to be a rather pessimistic view you take here, Steven.
I recomment you to have a look at the monthly 'Music Cafe' contest in the Forum. Two threads have been working without problems for years there.
There is a saying that making music produces intelligent folk, so I don't see chaos arising.

That's a thing bj or any other volunteers (including myself maybe if it won't be too complicated) would have to sort out. Hence my constraint to have bj have the final word.

I can't see a difference to the actual situation we have now.

Bj? Your opinion?

Have a nice day

Pessimistic? I'd say more realistic. Or do you not take note of the normal behavior around here.

In addition to that, and this is something I just thought of, having two threads becomes a bit of a pain for the contestants themselves.

Simple example.

John Doe posts his track.

John Smith listens to track and wants to comment on it.

Right now, simple. Quote post and make comment.

With 2 threads, you can't do this anymore. You have to quote the post, copy it, close thread, and then go into the 2nd thread, paste the quote in a new reply and then type your message.

There has to be a better way to manage this once groups are gone. Ultimately, (1) I don't really care as I won't be entering these anymore and (2) the final decision will be up to those who run this thing.

I'm just trying to point out things that MAYBE some people might not think about before coming to a decision. The last thing you want to do is put a system into place that turns out to be a bad system. And if I had the time, and cared enough, to really sit down and think this thing through, I could probably come up with a lot of other "problems" with having 2 threads. As a QA tester of software for over 6 years, as well as a programmer for over 25, these are the kinds of things I had to think of every single day. Too many people jump into things without thinking and the go "Ooops, sorry, didn't think of that" and then either have to undo a lot of stuff or live with the consequences.

I see no good coming from this solution. The automation doesn't exist to make this a seamless process.

But whatever. I mean like what do I know? I've just had to think through things like this for over half my life. I mean it's not like I have a brain or anything like that.

Carry on. Whatever.

In the gossip thread post anything you want, including your submission if you want that.
In the submisssion thread post only your (final) submission.

We could make a rule that once your track is in the submission thread, you can't change it but that's very hard to control because some have soundcloud pro accounts and others don't.
(Soundcloud Pro gives you the possibility to change the track after uploading)

Hey guys, I put the submissions up on the OP:

How does that work for you?

BJ, does that automatically update after a track is approved or is this a manual process?

Hey guys, please support this petition to keep soundcloud groups:

I just signed the petition. It doesn't hurt to try all though I have a feeling that Soundcloud already made up their mind. Hope is the last thing.
