I have bought a soundcard(m-audio) and got Ableton Lite and Cubase LE with it. And if i remember correctly i have seen people give away serials they don't use(if i am correct).... i ask: can i give away my Cubase LE legally? I have not installed it or registered the serial. Thanks in advance.

I think it's perfectly fine to do so. It's not tied to the hardware, so they wouldn't be able to do anything against that anyway. And i'm sure they rather see the serial used, and possibly upgraded to a bigger version of Cubase, than unused, and catching dust. ;)

Btw, some mags distributed LE versions of Cubase too. So, that's another argument for being able to give it away.

None of these are arguments for being able to, only arguments for the likelihood

If no one comes forward with specific knowledge either way then best to just contact Steinberg :tu:

Well, they won't be able to distinguish between a version sold with hardware, and one sold with a mag, so.

The op started the thread to find out the legal side of this, not what loopholes exist for him to just get away with doing it anyway

There is no loophole. You will even be able to sell the version, if you have registered the serial, and used it. It's not tied to a hardware ID, like the Maschine bundles, for example.

You're still coming at it from the angle that no one will catch you because it's not tied to hardware, even if it's been registered

Like I said, the op seems to want to do this by the book

Yeah, fair enough. I'm sure they won't tell him anything different from what i stated above.

I think they'll have no problem in it being given away, but I highly doubt they'll state it in the same way :P :D

naturally, le's are given in hopes that the user will like it enough to buy the full version. If someone buying hardware already has a DAW and is not interested in the le, passing it on is good for the company :tu:
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Exactly, and that was my whole point. :) I must admit though that it's not very fair to just assume that that would be the standpoint of the company too, without knowing it, so it's fair enough to ask, and know it for sure. I would have been surprised if it wasn't though. Every distributed LE version is a good thing for them, as it means potential future customers.

Not exactly

Actually, we all agree that there are many reasons why the developer would be happy about it. However, it still needed to be checked
