SOLVED: Beware New iLok (HD?) Authorised Software Installations

I'm not sure what may have caused it as I'm sure I used UVI Mello *really* recently, post the large Anniversary update. I've nothing (at all!) to base this on but I'm wondering if the redistribution version of iLok that's come with Adaptiverb has caused this problem for everyone here (including myself). I've reinstalled iLok using the version on the website and no joy - but I'm worried the version of iLok that got bundled with Adaptiverb has corrupted all my licenses (again I've nothing to base this on, just pure conjecture at this point !)
EDIT: To confirm I use the software/hard-drive version of iLok
EDIT2: Several people have been reporting this error since Thursday (no reference to Adaptiverb so presumably not the actual culprit here) - http://community.airmusictech.com/airmu ... leton-live

yes same here , the Anniversary Widows 10 Upgrade have broken many activations too , including soft e-licenser , Stylus RMX , Cantabile , also some older Pace Sonivox Software like Playa and some others too .andrew71 wrote:New builds of Windows 10, such as the recently released anniversary update (build 1607) tend to break previous authorisations of software. Has everyone suffering this problem recently had the new build installed? I only recently installed build 1511 and had to reauthorise Spectrasonics and a few other plugins.
got all working again by reauthorize and or contacting some developer . the only one i can not reactivate or use are Playa because you can not reinstall Pace low level driver , end up always with an error message .
i wonder what will happen if Microsoft Updates Windows 10 again like an upgrade install with this anniversary update .
shame

What is the Windows update doing that is causing so much chaos? I just upgraded my Mac to El Capitan and the most I had to reauthorising was a couple of CR apps and that is a whole new OS, not just an update.

its not an update , its basically an upgrade installation , previews windows installation gets replaced (they made it like if you would upgrade from previous Windows like 7 or 8 to window 10) .
that was an bad choice from Microsoft imo .

So even if you had Win 10 already it replaces it with Win 10 again?

Yeah that's basically it. This is the second major update to 10.
On the Insider program, every new build is like this. Not an update, but a full upgrade.
I can't think of what it's breaking. But some of these protection schemes might use methods that may get blocked by MS locking things down for security. Like how 10 broke disc-based copy protections like Safedisc and Securom.

With HD authorisations, it may be worth deauthorising as much as possible before installing new Windows builds in future.

I have win7 here and everything worked fine the day before I installed Adaptiverb trial which included an update for iLok manager that f**ked all the plugins using that demonic software...
I would have thought they'd call out the techs during the weekend to fix this but no they just tell you to deactivate/reactivate the plugins which worked for like 5 minuets, great job iLok customers are really getting their moneys worth .....
I'm seriously pissed, been having a creative spark here for the first time in probably 15 years so this really f**ked me like nothing I have experienced before ..........

Somebody on Gearslutz reported having issue with his iLok dongle authorizations, so this could be not just an HD related problem.
"By the way, I am physical ILOK, not HD, so probably need to update that advice also."
Isolated case?
Anyway, be warned.

i know there's no chance of anyone listening but i hope developers will maybe just think about other copy protection solutions. wavearts and some others offer iLok or their own HD authorization not using the iLok system. it'd be great if more devs would do this.
the problem w/ilok is when it goes down it takes everything with it. because it's widely used it doesn't just affect one thing.. it's several developers on a system.
and the iLok support system often is just a diverting mechanism back to the developer or a 1 in 10 chance of making a support ticket when clicking through their prompts.
frustrated over here.

Sounds like a nightmare for professionals who really need their plugins for their job. Yet another reason to use plugins that only require serials and can be registered as often as required.
So, why do people update their iLok software at all, as long as some older versions works? I never update, I don't even open that silly application.

i did the unthinkable and bought a new plug in that uses iLok for "protection". seems it just protects me from using it by breaking everything. zing!fluffy_little_something wrote:Sounds like a nightmare for professionals who really need their plugins for their job.

it's what i get for paying for the software i use. i suspect pirates have a much easier time of it.

In many cases it's unavoidable because the software installer will also run an unattended setup of Pace without ever asking user if they want to. Plenty of developers are quilty of force installing the Pace cr@p.fluffy_little_something wrote:
