Why not just make more of them?
Only two synths used SSM2040 on a larger scale: Prophet 5 Rev 2 and CAT SRM (also second revision). All in all I guess less than 20000 of these chips maybe even half of that were ever put into boxes. The CEM 3340 VCO on the other hand was probably used in tenfolds of that. Which is why this chip is now being manufactured again. The SSM2040 won't ever be.

Sorry, I'm not paying 8000+ € on a synth that's eventually gonna die on me for good, and I probably need two or three of them.

I'd much rather model the Synthex for Diva.

So my conclusion is to uninstall it. Sort of catch 22, I have no need of a free plugin if it is gonna use that much CPU
Well, yes. But we've been clear about this from the beginning, no? The alpha is free "as is", the final version will cost.

Yeah, don't worry about it :)

Have you set a final price for it yet, hoping it will be more in the ACE bracket than DIVA

I guess somewhere between Ace and Diva... ;)

But really you got no clue as you are not working for them, so I'll wait to hear from u-he about that

Guessing I can do myself

That's a very sensible position to take and one that's going to force to buy a prophet 6 :(. I'm sure they'd be people willing to lend a prophet 5 out push come to shove but Synthex is nice too.

+1 Why shouldn't Dave Smith be interested to lend a Prophet 5 to u-he, in exchange for getting a DSI logo on the final plug.

Would be a win win situation for everybody.

BTW, there is a mint v3 version up for grabs now at €3700 (plus shipping from Australia)

v3 has different filters to v2, impacts the sound quite considerably.

Post

v3 is the final version, "thinner" to some ears, but more reliable:
Rev 1 P5s are pretty unreliable, if you find one; they're also quite rare. These were all hand-assembled in the 'garage stage' of the company.

Rev 2 uses SSM chips, and has some differences in its control logic capabilities from the final version. It can't be retrofitted for MIDI, but is considered by most to be the better-sounding of the two 'common' P5s.

Rev 3 is the final version, and subsequent Rev 3.1, Rev 3.2 and Rev 3.3 each are capable of taking a MIDI retrofit. They're also capable of microtonal tuning. The audio quality of the Rev 3 is different, however, as it uses Curtis chips instead of Rev 2's SSMs; many people think the Rev 3 units sound 'thinner'. The Rev 3, however, is considered the most reliable of all of the different versions and they had 120 memory patches.

It's plus 19% import tax, some 5% customs fees and 30+€ additional shipping cost.

Also, I had a lot of bad luck lately with internationally shipped items.

I don't think Dave has that many Prophet 5s left. I also don't think he'd be overly interested in any "official" Prophet emulation, regardless of who made it.

Yeah, it is a bit of money, but can't you write it off on your tax return, as work related equipment?
