Yes

Maybe a Win-XP repair from CD is in order first. I have done that many times and there was no problem with registration numbers and the like although I do think I did have to re-install some applications after,

Shouldn't have to reinstall apps either... unless Windows replaces a dll that's not up to snuff for the app, which is a possibility. Usually everything just 'works' after the reinstall....

Thank you all for your help

A re-install cured everything and did not erase the key commands I had previously saved.

BTW the xml files are in Documents and Settings/Application Data/Steinberg/ etc...

Phew! Glad to hear it. I read but had nothing helpful to post.

Non-helpful thing to post: The thread's subject line reminds me of the title of a "slasher" horror flick (I think you intended that). What should the villain's name be? Quaver? Crotchet? D.C. "Al" Coda? Double Sharp?
