Pretty good guide here:
https://support.native-instruments.com/ ... re-Product

I now have Komplete activated on two computers. I also had it activated on a third, but the harddrive on that went corrupt and could not be rescued.

I contacted NI about it, but they didn't give me a quite clear answer if they counted that as an activiated licence anymore.

So to plan for the worst, I got 3 licences activated, one of them defunct.

And three licenced computers is the max they allow aint it?

So I wonder if I should deactivate one of the running computers I got, that I don't use so much these days. So that I have spare licence in backup, should another computer break down...

As you have found out, you cannot deactivate the licence yourself, only NI can do that.

Reply back to NI, letting them that the hard drive on which on Komplete was installed is now no longer readable (and has been destroyed / reformatted?). Ask them again to remove that activation from your NI Account.

I'm not sure how to work out which one of the three needs to be deactivated. is that in Service Center somewhere?)

I contacted them about it when the HD went down, explaining that the Komplete serial had got lost on the HD, this is the reply I got from NI support:
The end user license agreement (EULA) of Native Instruments' products allows installation on two computers (three computers for all versions of Maschine and KOMPLETE), as long as only one installation is used at any given time.

If you replace one of your computers it is not necessary to de-activate an existing installation to activate the product on a new machine, but due to the license agreement it is required to uninstall the product from the previously used computer.

If your computer crashed or you replaced the hard drive and it is not possible to perform an uninstall, proceed with activation on the new computer. You will still maintain the number of activations per the End User License Agreement on the working computers.

Please do not create a new account! Always use the same login (email address) to activate on a new machine, as your serial number is connected to your registration account.

Please note that Native Instruments reserves the right to disable an account or serial number if it has reason to believe that the license agreement is violated.
So it is more or less "Bob's your uncle", nothing much to worry about.

But when it comes to an expensive product like Komplete, I am a little paranoid, and want to have it stated more clearly that the licence lost on the corrupt HD is wiped from their records.

As long as you have told NI (and kept a copy) clearly that the disk failed (or was destroyed) and can never be read / used again then all should be well. As it stands, you now have activations on 2 working systems, with one spare and meet that last sentence in the quote.

No need to worry, imo.

Yeah, I agree, when reading this it all seems very good:

But then follows:
Please note that Native Instruments reserves the right to disable an account or serial number if it has reason to believe that the license agreement is violated.
All the proof I have given them is my word, so I am keeping on to that corrupted HD that I removed from the computer.

Should they want to scrutinize me in the future, I can mail it to them as evidence 8)

From what I've heard if you activate a lot of computers in a small amount of time they'll notice and contact you about it (with the risk to lose the account/serial ) but otherwise there's no real problem and no real activation limit... From what I've heard....
