Ruby/Noisy Cricket guitar amps?

...and how to do so...

Anyone built either of these?

Was looking to throw something battery powered together just to keep in the shed for my slide experiments (...) I've seen some people claim they drive 4x12s ok so thought it could be ok with an old pair of 6" speakers I salvaged, hardly a bass monster but better I guess than those mini Marshall etc amps?

Cheers.

I built a Ruby yonks ago. Absolutely fine with a 5/6" speaker (can't remember size exactly) and sounded pretty good. I used it as a bench amp for a while but, as I remember, found it didn't get on too well with some pedals.

I was going to try one of the TDA2030 amps for a bit more headroom but never got around to it after somebody gave me a little Peavey. The TDA pushes out more watts but needs an 18V bipolar supply which is a pain.

That's surprising, I thought the FET input buffer should mean it's pretty pedal friendly. I have most of the bits so it'll only cost a couple of quid to build one, will give it a go.

There are so many options now, boards from old PC speakers, little usb powered 3w amps on ebay for pennies (well 99 pennies :)) etc. And I have a couple of old laptop betteries so wonder about using them to power it (without starting a fire, li-on cells and all that...)

Thanks.

(And another Thanetarian, cool.)

I think some pedals were maybe just hitting it too hard for the poor little 9V supply.

I'm not originally from Thanet but I do love to be beside the seaside :-)

Cool, well it's all happening here now, Contrapop on the weekend with Silver Apples, totally surreal to someone who grew up here... :)

Ack, just seen this - I saw a poster for the event with dates of 21-23 August but looking at the website I see it started yesterday and finishes tomorrow. Gee whiz
