I listen mostly to classical music these days (95% of that Bach), but in my top 10 of best albums of all time, I still have at least 4 dance/electronic albums.
Just the notion of "is dance music real music?" being a valid question deserving consideration is ridiculous to me. Of course it's music. Most of it pretty bad music, but some of it can be as good as any other music.

Gaslighting...is a form of mental abuse in which information is twisted or spun, selectively omitted to favor the abuser, or false information is presented with the intent of making victims doubt their own memory, perception, and sanity.

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

Most likely someone had the idea to take all the elements of certain genres that make people want to dance, and decided to put it all together in one genre.resistent wrote:The question should be why is there EDM? And what is so interesting about?

Yes. Yes, indeed.

I would have said that anything intentional that includes noise of some sort is music, but as John Cage clearly demonstrated, even that definition is too narrow.

Well since music is supposed to be subjective then whatever music genre is is or is not, to the subject. Banana is not subjective. Dictionaries say banana is fruit. Never mind metaphysics and alternate realities. Banana is fruit. Dictionaries are rarely wrong. If dictionaries say EDM is defined as a music genre then you better just agree because once the dictionary declares what what is it is no longer subjective and if EDM is not music then it would just be ED and if you disagree... fine be like that. That, or you can rise to the top of the dictionary committee or some other top and fire everybody and say things like, and I paraphrase, "it's huuuuuge", "it's not a moneymaker", "we don't need no stinking dictionary committee", "I, me, will be the committee", "I will be both soldier and general and a wigmaker". He he he, ha ha ha. Pardon me. My other computers are all busy. I'm just killing time. I need a fourth computer. Maybe one of my generous brothers will donate to me another computer. This one is about to die. Imminent drive failure... the bootup thingy declares. I'm all nervous. Any day or second now. Hey what's the calmest place on Earth, weather-wise? I bet it's somewhere in the Sahara Desert. Hey did you hear on the news "300+ reindeer killed by lightning in Norway". Poor innocent fellow mammals, just eating crud or whatever it is that reindeer eats one moment and dead of lightning the next, the news stated. I'm confused. Was it the sight of ultra-mega-super unbelievably humunguos freaky-to-see horror-filled heart-attack-inducing lightning that caused the deaths? Or was it one lightning that split or forked in 300+ electricutive directions that did it? And what about survivors? Some reindeer are just tougher than others? If those survivor reindeer could speak would they say something like "Geez us that was one freaky lightning, it looked like the devil, it was soooooooooooo scary, I almost died just looking at it". Hey the KVR spell checker is stating that the word reindeers need to be corrected.thecontrolcentre wrote:Are bananas real fruit?
Can't be pluralized I guess. And electricutive is not a word? Wigmaker too? And humunguos? Too lazy to Google them. Okay dictionary, yes sir, yes madam. Well, one of my computers is not busy anymore. Adios for now dude, mon amis, amigos, amigas.
