Indeed. Just one of those films whose successors could once again not nearly reach the same quality. Seems like some stuff is really wearing out in light speed.Nielzie wrote:Still the Matrix for me. Awesome concept/story, great scenes and effects

The problem with the next movies in the trilogy is that they tried to cover too much ground in little time.chk071 wrote:Just one of those films whose successors could once again not nearly reach the same quality. Seems like some stuff is really wearing out in light speed.
Would be better if it had been turned into a TV series, to be able to explores the many themes more in depth.

I'd rather think the stories of the 2 films wasn't up to par with the first, and, they tried to pack too much action in those. I mean, they weren't bad, but not nearly as "round", and well made as the first one. It appeared that the first one was really planned, laid out, and tailored very well, while the others were rushed, and compromised for the action audience.

Indeed, not lost like tears in the rain, like all those posts in OTrp314 wrote:A first and only post from KVR's good old days of 2002. If this thread had correctly been placed in the OT forum, n0 might just be some memory. Instead, his modest contribution still lives...

I enjoyed the first one at the time, but the next two were booooorinnng ... the original doesn't really stand up these days either imho. I don't plan to see it again.chk071 wrote:I'd rather think the stories of the 2 films wasn't up to par with the first, and, they tried to pack too much action in those. Yea Baby, great list!Har wrote:Poweruser: I have one of the props from the set of "12 Monkeys" here in my cubical at work! One of my friends worked on the film when it was shot in Philly.
Some of my faves, in no specific order (I know I'm forgetting most of them):
* The Time Machine (the old original one, tho the new one was surprisingly good too)
* The War Of The Worlds
* When Worlds Collide (OK, I admit it: I love old George Pal films <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" /> )
* Blade Runner
* The Andromeda Strain
* 2001: A Space Odyssey
* The Omega Man (I loved the music from this)
* The Lathe of Heaven
* Fantastic Voyage
* Soylent Green
* Destination: Moon (REAL old one!)
* Brazil
* the "Alien" series (except the last one)
* the "Planet of The Apes" series
* Terminator I and II
* 12 Monkeys
* the original Star Wars trilogy
* The Matrix
* Dark City
* Forbidden Planet (gotta love the soundtrack!)
* THX1138 (those were the numbers, Dottie <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" /> )
* Total Recall
* RoboCop
* Event Horizon
* The Fifth Element
* Space Balls <img border="0" alt="[Grin]" title="" src="graemlins/1hihi.gif" />

Primer too.
Though that's a film I admire rather than, y'know, understand.

Classic: Fahrenheit 451 by François Toland Truffaut. Very true to the book.
Of course Alien is among my favorites as far as action oriented sci-fi goes just like Predator, Total recall and Blade Runner, but at more subtle and existential level, I think "Vanilla Sky" is worth mentioning and "Children of men".
With today's movie tech, I cannot really understand why anyone haven't thought of turning Philip K. Dick's most excellent sci-fi thriller "Ubik" into a movie. Would really like to see that.

Tarkovsky's Stalker is probably my favourite these days.
Bladerunner (of course)
They Live
The Last Woman On Earth is one I find myself rewatching often for some reason
