Latency when it comes to MIDI.....you know?You hit the key on the keyboard(XP-30 here) and you can tell there is a lag between the keyboard and computer(800mhz athlon,768 RAM).

Im thinking its my computer but is there anyway to speed up this or adjust or tweak something to get better performance with MIDI controllers?
Im happy with FL Studios performance with the VSTs(CPU wise) but when I try to use the keyboard for live editing or playing the lag turns me off.

I don't know about FL Studio exactly, but in Cubase it depends on the used ASIO driver really. Native is always better then MME or DirectX ASIO.

What kinda sound card do you got?

yes - you need to check the drivers for your sound card. you didn't mention what you have, but check to see if there is a native asio driver for it.

This is one of the things that sort of bothers me about FL Studio. Recording live midi is dependant on your soundcard latency. And you can't disable you're soundcard audio in FL and then have 0 latency for recording midi. Other problem is reducing your latency on DirectX cards causes the whole timeclock to slow down (if you reduce the latency to a very low amount). Well, as far as I know, you pretty much have to get an ASIO supported card...

For this reason, I bought an audiophile 2496 (they're like $99 now).

I don't think this is an FL problem. You'd have the same thing with cubase or orion or even the godstatus tracktion if the latency is set too high.

Yeah, ok, I don't mean to beat up on FL Studio (me lubs it). But prior to any VSTi host environments, I came from Cakewalk (pre-ProAudio), so I just assumed everything for MIDI was 0 latency. My only outboard gear is a k2000. And back in the day, I was just running a PCI midi card (separate from my crap audio card I had back then)...

EDIT: In fact, I think recording in ProAudio/Sonar is 0 latency for MIDI, but that may only be if you're not running any VSTis. Not sure - I don't run those hosts anymore except for my old MIDI sequences (which I started to convert to standard MIDI anyway...)

Are you talking about, you play a note and it's not recorded by the host at the right time?

Or you play a note and you dont hear it till later?

If it's the second one, that's easily fixable by adjusting asio drivers.

I will adjust the drivers.I have ASIO4ALL and I love what it has done for the vsts inside FL Studio but I will adjust them for MIDI also.
I wasnt sure if it do anything for MIDI but I will look at it.
