I did mention later that there were some major complications regarding K6 development and that it won't make it for Komplete 11... It looked good at one point but then stuff happened. Can't give any more details. So, for now we're on K5.6 train, and there will likely be one or two more updates to K5 and then we can expect K6 late next year hopefully. This is purely my own speculation, so don't take it for granted.

Oh I don't expect it either. It would allow integration to other controllers too easy.

It's just the better way to do it from a user perspective.
What is needed is another vendor makes a player that is compatible with the full Kontakt format.

An much cheaper.

Which again won't happen because of NI's IP. :)

Oh yeah, I saw that, I was just messing around. Thanks for the info. I forgot I had bumped this until you answered me in the other thread.

I'm hoping someone here can answer the following long-winded question.

I currently run Kontakt 5.5.1 on a 2012 MacBook Pro running 10.8.5. Over the past few years, I have purchases a lot of sound libraries for Kontakt. My plan is to stick with OS 10.8.5 and the latest version of Kontakt that will run on this OS for the foreseeable future - it's really all I'll ever need. I have now come to find that NI has moved from the Service Center installer to its new Native Access installer. My understanding is that this new installer doesn't support offline installations, nor the saving of the update file. In other words; Big Brother is in the house! In addition, Native Access will only run on OS 10.9 and above.

So, does anyone know if, in the future, I am going to be able to reinstall 5.5.1 when I have to (drive failure, iLok failure, etc.) from the dmg file I saved, and activate it without Access, or am I boned? If I am boned, would making an exact disk image of my computers hard drive, and installing that image on a new drive get around this problem? Does an iLok failure doom my plan?

As an aside, I found out tonight that the latest version of Kontakt 5 that will work on my system (5.5.2) was released, but I missed it, and now can't get it. This is a crappy thing for NI to do. Not everyone needs the latest version of Kontakt to pursue their musical ideas.

you can still download the 5.5.2 update via the 'updates for legacy products' page - login to your NI account then go to https://www.native-instruments.com/en/s ... ch=kontakt

also, as someone who does mac support for a living, I think you're painting yourself in to a corner sticking to 10.8 - too many applications now require 10.9 or later - 10.10 is generally considered solid so I'd think hard about maybe upgrading to that (though Apple makes it really tricky updating to the 'older' release as they really want you to go to 10.11 - easiest is to find someone who saved the 10.10 upgrade installer and grab a copy off them)

As someone who doesn't make a living out of Mac support, :) I run two Macs on 10.9.5 and it's generally being very stable. I went straight from 10.6.8 to Mavericks and I've had no general System related problems at all. In short, I'm very happy with 10.9.5.

I also run 10.11.3 from a partition when needed for updates to Final Cut Pro X, etc. But not all of my 64 bit audio plugs play nice in El Cap environment. I also had to tweak a bit for Photoshop CS6 to run well in 10.11.

Mavericks is nice and IMO better than 10.8. ;-)

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Absolutely - 10.9 was solid-as, only issue is since apple supports the current version and the previous 2 (so at the mo that means 10.11, 10.10 and 10.9), when 10.12 rolls out next month 10.9 is going to drop off support. Hence why I said if the OP was to upgrade I'd go to 10.10, not aware of a lot of compatibilit issues with 10.10 wheras 10.11 is definitely more of a hassle with some older software.

Thanks, jdnz. I was all over their web site last night and never found that page. Apparently, 5.5.2 requires 10.9, so 5.5.1 is it for me.

My reason for not wanting to change is that I have a few older apps that won't run under 10.9. I just want to make sure that I will be able to maintain this down the road.

By the way, you'll notice that quotes don't work for me on KVR for some reason; never have.

Edit: But thanks to EvilDragon, they do now!!!

Do you have the "Disable BBCode" checkbox enabled, below the save draft/preview/submit buttons? Disable it.

Yes!!! I can't believe it was that simple. I'm not sure how that got checked. I'm also not sure why they would provide a check box that screws things up.

Thanks, ED.

No prob. Now you can go back through all your posts and edit them with BBCode enabled :)
