Mixbus demo test run

A few people were not pleased that Mixbus had no demo,
but it's out now.

In linux Mixbus demo, I loaded Bliss, Discovery Pro, Zynaddsubfx, Zebra2, Beatzille, FilterscapeVA, Helm, Diva, Podolski, Hive, and TyrellN6 in the session. Tap-dancing on eggshells?
That's a pretty nice working group that
inspires a Mixbus purchase, and a peak into the manual pdf.

Recorded the Mixbus output to 24 bit timemachine.

Then started a second daw, Qtractor, and loaded lv2 synths
Triceratops, Calf Monosynth and (another) zynaddsubfx,
plus started a standalone Hydrogen drum machine,
which grabs the qtractor transport.
Still chugging along fine, sent the mixbus/qtractor/hydrogen output
to a Rakarrack fx, and on to timemachine for recording.

And in the 'why not, it's mine' category, I went to
a third desktop screen, and started Reaper in wine, and loaded a
couple Synth1 instances with arp presets. Mixbus and Qtractor
didn't seem to care, and just kept on kepting on,
so added Reaper to the timemachine recording choices.

Hopefully the win/mac demos will also inspire some
purchase confidence.

So I'm kinda surprised that people are not happier that there is a demo or discussing it much. Or is there some other thread I missed?

If it's scampi style, that is fine. Not a big garlic fan when it's overwhelming. The other two sound great (clams are great, was joking)

...there, put the lid back on the barrel a few minutes ago...everything seems...
much clearer now. Except now I know I really need to change out of
that Guitar Center tee-shirt. I'll go lean it up against the washing machine.

Back in the realm of the technical, the mixbus output really has
the butch-cut hairdo look, compared to the qtractor/reaper sounds,
I guess from all the Harrison compressor-limiter-dynamics-plugins magic,
which is all new to this dinosaurus wrecks.
Sounds fine, but (edit) the waveform (not the gui)
looks oogly to me

I don't mind the look of it, for a couple versions there it looked
like Willy Wonka had blown chunks all over everything. Dunno what
Ben was thinking honestly.

Well, in short: if you want to achieve a great sound and are planning to solely use mixbus and mixbus alone for mixing - go for it (try the regular demo first, and if you're feeling you'd like to have more control over the sound try the 32c version).

If you have other third party plugins that are essential to your workflow - don't bother with mixbus at the moment at all. The compability of third party plugins is still rather bad. That said, it's really worth to try out the demo. Maybe you're lucky and those plugins you definitely need for mixing are working just fine

I can't think of any plug-ins that don't work in it for me,
out of the 900 or so that I have installed atm.

The plug-in management is pretty bad though, I have to admit.

If your have trouble here are some things you need to do if anyone is
not aware.

*Always clear your plug-in cache and blacklist before doing a scan in mixbus.
For some inexplicable reason, mixbus will blacklist any new
versions of any plug-ins it finds. Rendering them unavailable.
Between this and timeouts, it can be easy to mistake that a plug-in
isn't working when it actually will.

*If you can swing it, disable any real-time virus protection during
a scan. Same for any DAW actually. Wondering why it takes so fricken
long to do a scan? Chances are you anti-virus is in the way.

*Again, Mixbus just loves to Blacklist anything and everything. More often
than not, it is just plain wrong...

Wait are you saying that you can run all those Vsti using Mixbus? If so, what is your system specification? Even though I'm very addicted to Mixbus Sound, Man I have never used it for MIDI purposes. It just uses too much of a CPU on my mac mini late 2012 with SSD and 16gb of Ram.

For mixing purpose hey nothing can't stand my 32C I won't even use another DAW even if the client insisted.

I tried it w/ FL VSTi in Multi-out mode and could not get it to work

Downloaded the 32C demo. The demo of a $299 product.
Had to give my name, postal address and phone number (!) to download it. Why ever.
Installed it, dragged a couple of WAVs into it, pressed play, worked.
Loaded a couple of stock plugins, could play with them for a few seconds.
Then they became "locked" because no license, couldn't change settings anymore.
Got bored, so scanned for 3rd party plugins.
Took AGES, like 3-5 seconds per plugin, on an i7 machine with SATA3 SSDs and lots of RAM.
Went even slower when it arrived at the iLok plugins, so I right-clicked the "scanning" dialog to see if it's still working.
Crash.
Deleted.

Actually, I was just talking about a couple of super rainbow colored interim updates
to version 3. They have since toned things back down.

Unless I inadvertently changed the color theme somewhere along the way.

I bought an i7 2600 cpu system from a tech recycler,
4 cores, 8 threads @3.4 ghz, cpufreq set for 'ondemand'
8gig ram
on linux Mint 17, with kernel:
4.2.0-19-lowlatency #23~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT,
Reaper 5.22 in wine-rt 2.1.8
Qtractor 2-0.7.8

Booted on an ancient external usb drive, 5400 rpm
soon to be replaced with a post-cretaceous period ssd...
