Hi,

I thought I might ask this in hopes that some wise person sould have the answer to my three year old question...

I have a Emu XL-1. I have never been able to get it to let me change patches from my controller keyboad. I have tried several different keyboads. Triton, K5000s, XV-88. I have no trouble changing patches on my virus or even from synth to synth but if I try on the xl-1 I get a (not installed) message. I have searched the setup menu and everything is turned on....any ideas?

I don't have an XL-1, just an XL-7. Not the same, but maybe close enough to be of use?

Let me guess... you do not have any additional ROMs installed? Or perhaps you have only 1 or 2 in addition to the XL rom?

Just asking because it sounds to me like the XL-1 is thinking that you're trying to access a rom bank for a slot that is empty. Hence maybe the error message.

Try a low patch on your controller keyboard, like 001, etc. on a low bank. If you're using the Triton, for example, use say A001. Then, don't enter a patch number rather press the Next/Up button instead. If the XL-1 follows along, then we're on the right track.

Meaning that maybe it IS something to do with it trying to access a bank that doesn't exist.

In which case I'll dig out the XL-7 manual and see it there might be something in there that might be of use to you as well.

wow,

That is a great idea! It makes sense...

I have tried a lower number, a001 and I still get the message. I am sure there is one little setting that I am overlooking, yet I have been looking for so long I just gave up. Then I thought, hey there are a bunch of smart guys here at kvr!!!
