Thanks glokraw, I was thinking to buy HD monitor but I think I will be better off with additional PC to run linux and Microsoft windows.

I paid the recycler $260 for the i7, which included a terrabyte drive
with fresh win7 pro installed, 8 gig ram, and dvd writer.
If you know some gamers, they often get upgrade fever,
and might make you a great deal. A pair of inexpensive
24" monitors might be more fun than one super hi-res.
A 120 gig ssd with adaptor and external case runs about $80,
and would be a good home to set up a linux, with another OS
inside the box. Such a fine season for making music!

Oh man, among all needless plugins and audio software I've bought in the past few years, Mixbus is probably the purchase I have regretted the most. It's an annoying piece of software and a company with annoying business practices. Like selling Mixbus at a super reduced price from $250 down to only $80, because it has such a great analog sound, and then suddenly selling Mixbus for $80 anyway and Mixbus X32C for $299, because the latter has such a great analog sound.

I can't wait to get Mixbus X64D for $499 to get an even more analogy sound.

I find complexity annoying. But we often choose to
deal with complexity, to reap whatever benefits
our skill and perseverance make possible. A Harrison console
looks annoyingly complex to me, while the Mixbus software
seems much less intimidating, in it's little monitor screen

If the analogy stuff wasn't fraught with it's own complexities,
there wouldn't have been such a headlong rush for all things digital.

Every daw I've seen is a rack of it's own annoyances.
Is overcoming them to the point of producing some music
that maybe get's heard twice, even worth the effort?

Pricing a new product in a crowded market isn't easy.
A lot of companies provide entry-level products, either free,
as part of hardware bundles, or at hobbyist/impulse
pricing, with high end choices for pro or specialty needs.

regardless of the software one chooses. I like Reaper, linux,
and Mixbus is growing on me. I even put the manual
in a handy place. Just in time for the weekend.

I tip my hat to you sir , I was one of the poor souls who brought into Mixbus well before there was any sign of a demo, if there was I wouldn't have made the purchase, one of my worst purchases in living memory

Maybe like Linux, next year will be the year of Mixbus?

I am 52, so I probably only have 30 to 35 years left if I am lucky, so I could well see the year of Mixbus in my time, but I am absolutely sure I will most certainly not get to see the year of Linux. The ice caps are melting faster than Linux is moving, and they would probably have a better chance of making an accepted and supported OS as well, but I digress.

There was a great debate some monthes ago about Mixbus and the lack of a demo. Now the Harrison team has made it, proof that they are listening. Why so much flames ?

The 400 page manual reveals some cool workflow,
the regions/clips are handled like the layers in a graphics editor,
very handy for comparing overdubs, riffs etc.

Maybe the flamers are cubase users who lost their dongles

Or Sonar users with rent increases?
Or Logic users with a new Mac and an old car?

...flaming is easy, mixing, not so much...Mastering? Priceless

There may be lot's of customers who buy Mixbus
for just the final stages of their productions, (Harrison even allude
to that in the manual) maintaining their routine workflow
in other daws, and importing the results so Mixbus tools can work their magic.

I will certainly fit in that category. If Mixbus provides a toolset or
workflow that is superior in one or more categories,
the fiscally responible thing to do, especially at this pricepoint,
is to take the advantage.

Here is the way of the lucky:

1. Aquire an audio interface known to work in linux.
2. Nevah, but nevvvaaaahhhhhh upgrade a working system
to a system of some unknown status
3. Decide to be a producer/composer rather than
an OS/daw/app fanboi.
4. Learn from those who you know actually know.

Almost every linux tale of woe involves rejecting
3 or 4 among the short list.

Because the endless (and absurd) arguments they wrote to not have a demo have now been trashed. Even for the (ridiculously) more expensive 32C version.

I welcome the demo and have no hard feelings towards Harrison or MB. I just wrote about my personal experience in order to warn people to think twice before they spend their money on Mixbus. That's not whining or bashing, it's providing information based on actual experience.

I certainly wouldn't buy it again. Other people's mileage may vary and it's good there is a demo now. Whatever you decide, you should also bear in mind that you cannot re-sell your license.
