:!: Physical Modeling synthesis fans take note (in case you're unaware, as I was):

There's a really neat synth for iOS called Fingerfiddle. It uses physically modeled string synthesis to create a rather realistic cello (other instruments available via IAP). It uses finger motions for bowing. It's very expressive, as modeled instruments tend to be with good controls (I could never get into using a mod wheel to simulate bowing, and this feels far more natural). I think it is the closest thing to having a stringed instrument without paying hundreds of dollars for an actual cello/violin/etc. (the app cost me $3.17, and I can play it better than my cheap-ass eBay violin).

Sounds interesting! I'll have to check it out. I don't suppose it includes MPE support?

Edit:
I'm guessing probably not. It seems pretty tied to its own gestural input method.

Oh wow - must buy!

It's amazing. Huge, expensive libraries might sound better but you can do change articulations in realtime. As well as do "real" portamento slides.
With or without scales.
Would love to play this via Seaboard and use the Y axis (cc 74) as bowing.
The developers seems to work at least on midi in/out options for a future update.
That's the apps you will never find for a desktop.
Impressive engine for just a few bucks.

Hopefully a VST won't be too far off.

I do plan on getting the Samplemodeling solo strings when the violin and contrabass are released, but would really love to see Fingerfiddle be ported to a VST plugin because it sounds realistic enough for me. A friend of mine who plays the cello agreed that Fingerfiddle sounds realistic enough to fool him.

So as a VST this would add to our arsenal of tools.

The more tools we as musicians have the better it is for everyone.

I mean it's a million miles away from things like Emotional Cello but it can do a few things those expensive libraries can't do.
I agree that a plug-in controlled trough a Seaboard or even a multi-touch version for win10 devices would be great.
But we know that iPad rules the multi-touch world for music. I doubt that will change.
Here is an exampel of good use of this app...

...and another interesting take here...

Unfortunately there isn't any way to configure Fingerfiddle for MPE or anything close to that. I don't mind playing the iPad with my Seaboard, but there just isn't any support right now. We should probably contact the developer...

I mean it's build as education app for touch screen mainly and i can understand that the little income of these apps is not the best motivation for free updates. I would happily pay for an IAP here to support this app!
The best strings for a Seaboard seems to be indeed the swam s engine instruments from Sample Modelling.
In the meantime the Moog Model 15 app is awesome with a Seaboard! I just wish that damn bluetooth wouldn't loose connection all the time.
Sometimes i really wish no one would buy iPads and those developers are forced to bring their great apps to hybrid devices like the asus transformer, surface pro etc. I'm an egoist!
So i'm happy my iPhone still has an analog connection for my headphones :D
