Is there a DAW with this kind of feature?

Hi guys

I just downloaded the StudioOne 3 demo hoping it has a feature I've been wanting to see in a DAW since forever. Unfortunately, SO3 has this feature only partially, so I have to keep looking/waiting.

What I desperately want to see in a DAW is a tabbed-window containing all the instruments and effects that are used in that project, each track being displayed on a separate tab. I made two drawings to illustrate what i'm talking about:

StudioOne has something like this, but as I said, it's only partially implemented. You get a tabbed-window with all the instruments inserted in the project, and also you get one tabbed-window for each track with all the effects inserted on that track, but there isn't a single window containing everything (one tab for each track, with the inserted instrument/effects).

That's the console in StudioOne. I wasn't talking about a console view. That's something pretty much any DAW has.

Well in Reaper you can open a performance meter (small on left) that will show cpu usage per track and how many fx you have on track. Then if you click a track in track monitor, it'll open FX panel where you can see what you have in there.

Yes, the console or the mixer. You just hit F3 and have a look at your tracks/inserts/sends and it works as a summary. You can even trigger what you like from instruments/effects from it and adjust everything related to everything else Hit F3 again and you are in the Tracks view. Can't be better than this workflow I guess. Maybe it is an old fashioned workflow by now, but it works great for me

There's a 3rd party script for Live (I forget it's name) that adds a box at the bottom of each track in the Session View showing what FX and Instruments are used on that track. You can open or close the view with a button the script adds to Live (on the right of the session view).

in samplitude you can tab the vsti manager, the manager is direct access to all the vsti's (in a text list), routing, freezing, adding, deleting, what track the vsti is on...freezing is cool because with multi out vsti's it's a quick bounce in place to multiple tracks...like all of samp's freezing imo it's more about bouncing in place and less about freeing up cpu (you can freeze a track, an object or an instrument)

Is that a Max4Live script?

Could you please add a printscreen with that. I'm not at all familiar with Samplitude, and on their website I couldn't find any information about the vsti manager.

Not really. I'm looking for something like a window that displays the entire instrument/FXs present on a certain track, not just the name of those instruments/FXs, and the possibility to select any track from that window.

I would give Digital Performer a try. Instead of "tabs" across the top like a web browser, it has what is called "chunks" as a small list that you can place on the left or right of the screen. Looking up YouTube videos is also a great way to see theses DAWs in action.

Another solution, albeit for the advanced user, would be integrating Vienna Ensemble Pro. This way, all your tracks are in the DAW, but they all route to an instance of Vienna Ensemble Pro where all the instruments and effects are tabbed like you want. If you have two screens, the selected track brings up the respective tab on the second screen within the VEP instance. If you have one screen, just split the screen any way you want. This also gives you the power to switch between DAWs and never unload any of the effects and plugins. The only thing you need to do is import or export the stems or MIDI, but that's a no-brainer. Using this method allows better core management by the OS which in turn takes most of the load off your DAW, so all it's doing is handling MIDI and playing back audio only.

Bitwig and Live both have basically that across the bottom... but you only get the GUI's for the built-in devices, not VST's. However, you do get all the VST parameters in a searchable list and the device macros (in Bitwig).
