It seems in cubase all VST instruments are stereo, and my VST connections -> external FX are mono, so when I put an external effect on my VSTI's only the left side of the signal is being processed while the right is not. How do I go about using mono external effects on a stereo tracks like VSTi's? Is the only option to bus them to a mono group or is there a more elegant solution?

I dont understand what you mean. I have my external FX already setup in VST connection.

Are you sure that you didn't mess something up?

I can have mono and stereo channels in Cubase (VSTi as Rack and Instrument track, WAV, Group Channels, etc), and I can ALWAYS send the signal to a mono AUX (called SEND in Cubase) or stereo AUX and nothing is offset. So that's for starters.

If we talk EXTERNAL EFFECTS, as in hardware, you should maybe check your VST Connections window if the routing is off or something (F4 key), and of course your connections to your ADC/DAC.

And if that routing is fine, check your connection chain (E button) of your audio/VSTi channel. Maybe only the left channel is connected that is then forwarded to the external effect or AUX bus.

The manual is your friend:
- routing
- external effects

Thanks. I'll for sure read the manual, but if you dont mind me asking, can you for sure create a mono VSTi as an instrument track in Cubase 8, as this seems to be a popular question here and I for one would LOVE to know how: http://japan.steinberg.net/forums/viewt ... 81&t=60232

In the VST connections I only have options for outputs on my audio interface and no options for panning, but perhaps my issue might be with my audio interface (will have to check when I'm back in the studio). I can of course create mono and stereo audio tracks, groups, FX, sends, but I cannot create mono VSTi tracks, and when I run stereo VSTi through mono FX, it seems to not fold down to mono, but instead only sends out half of the signal to the external mono effect.

Now off to download the manual...

if you want a mono instrument , just load your instrument and set the output on mono bus

Are you trying to route a VSTi to external mono stompbox chain in and out of Cubase?

OK, like hivkorn said, open a new audio channel in Cubase. Use the drop-down menu in the new channel description to select mono. This will appear as a mono track. When you look at the channel inspector, it will show up with stereo routing, but only the left will appear active. Route your audio signal in (physically), arm the track and you should be good to go

Setting up a mono track for a VSTi is the same as hivkorn says. Send the signal through your audiocard's left output only. Mono out, mono in. Do you have a physical mixer in that circuit? It would make it easier.

Or I could be talking out my ass again.
