Its a license the same as buying direct from G-Force.

I'm not sure how quick license delivery is, but it shouldn't be long at all if its not instant.

Edit: just checked. It seems Re-Tron's tape banks come from the Streetly Tapes expansions, so there should be no overlap with M-Tron Pro. That's actually quite interesting. Size wise, Re-Tron appears to be as large as one Streetly expansion (about 600 MB) whereas M-Tron Pro weighs over 3 gig.

Imo, the GForce is the best of the bunch. In addition to the stock sounds you can also purchase several expansions to further expand your palette of banks.

Got some more information from the Re-Tron manual:

"The recently released Streetly Tapes - Vol 1 - for M-Tron Pro marked the instrument’s true coming of age as this was the first time the original EMI tapes had been made available for a plug-in instrument.
Likewise, Re-Tron is something truly special. Based entirely on the sublime Streetly library, and including many previously unreleased tape banks, Re-Tron sets a new standard for a ‘Tron instrument in the virtual world.
All of the sounds included with Re-Tron were recorded via the original EMI tapes and through a specially prepared Skelletron - an exoskeletal M400 that allows easy alignment and azimuth adjustments to each of the 35 tape-heads – to give you the very best ‘Tron sounds available." When checking the preset titles, Re-Tron is indeed a mix of the Streetly Libraries 1, 2 as well as 3, so it's a nice addition for M-Tron Pro owners unless they purchased those Street Libraries as well.

Re-Tron sounds like a nice option if you're working in Reason.

However, if you're working in other DAWs you might still prefer the regular vst. I have all the currently available banks, including the Streetly Tapes and they are well worth looking at.

I'm interested in getting the Streetly Tapes vols 1-3, but they're pretty expensive! Do those things ever go on sale? I've been watching since October.

I'm the keyboardist in a Genesis tribute band and the sounds I need are spread across all three expansions.

Just noticed that for US buyers, getting the expansions direct from GForce is cheaper than buying from 3rd party vendors (thanks to a "rising" dollar/falling GBP).

Not sure if those vendors will eventually adjust their prices or not, but at least for now this is a better discount than I've seen in a while. Also it could be that GForce updates their prices, or switches to USD like Spitfire Audio did, so it might be advantageous to buy now.

You might be right! According to Google, 48 pounds is just under $60...about $20 less than buying from online retailers in the US anyway.

I've been watching for a while... I had incorrectly planned on buying some Spitfire Audio libraries with their wishlist coupon, but they had switched it all to USD. I can't blame them for the change as it seems to be a smart decision.

That's why I'm saying that if you are in the market, now would be a great time to buy. The exchange could still widen, and maybe they'll never switch currencies, but I've rarely ever seen their content on sale so this might be as good as it gets.

I have M-Tron and M-Tron Pro.
I have always found them somewhat thin and edgy sounding.

Recently I purchased UVI Synth Anthology 2 which has some trons.

These Trons are MUCH warmer and rich.

Makes me wonder about their tron collection, any one own this?

Is GForce M-Tron Pro still the best "Tron" vst?
