Don't get me wrong - Hive has a great UI that is very fast and easy to use. It's just that the space-ship-type looks position it too much in the dance/techno music niche. It was meant to be that, but we hadn't foreseen how the possibilities provided by the ModMatrix have broadened Hive's scope, e.g. because effect parameters can be targeted and pretty much everything that has a knob. It has become much more than just a supersaw synth for trance music. It appeals to enthusiasts of modular synthesis just as much. Hence we're looking for more "mature" visuals.andresnol wrote:This. We won't change the UI much because I think it's very iconographic as it is.electro wrote:DIVA already covers a tremendous amount of ground. What else is getting added? That alternative Volta GUI is genius.Urs wrote: The concepts for Zebra3 require a lot of research (as do the planned additions to Diva and the modular range)
We'll add some revised algorithms, maybe an early ladder filter that's better suited for mono sounds, maybe faster envelope options. On top we've got plans for some new models, mostly filters and maybe oscillators, think Synthex, Polivoks, classic diode ladders or 700S. Not sure which ones we'll do and when, but there's certainly some room for improvements.

Seems Hive was dropped like a hot potato. ..electro wrote:The good thing about emulating a synth is that you just use the features of the original. So what's missing from Hive that makes it seem like support was "dropped"?Klinke1 wrote:Seems Hive was dropped like a hot potato...

The missing Hexagon feature
I kid I kid.
But seriously, isn't Urs just saying a few posts up that they are at the very least changing the GUI of Hive? That sure doesn't sound like dropped to me.

Fantastic news, and it's very superficial of me but is exactly that reason I really haven't given it the proper use - I just keeping imagining David Guetta booting it up and hammering keys for a bit ! Currently switched to this skin ( viewtopic.php?f=31&t=448417&p=6362098&h ... e#p6361237 ) but would love to see what can be done by the official teamUrs wrote:Don't get me wrong - Hive has a great UI that is very fast and easy to use. I'd love to see some faster envelope options right out of the gate with Diva. The Diva take on the Minimoog just doesn't seem quite as snappy as Monark, which is my go-to for basses. I'm still amazed how well NI actually pulled that the thing off. More filters and oscs are definitely sexy, but I think if you follow the "improve the weakest link in the chain" methodology for updating, faster envelopes should come first IMO.Urs wrote:We'll add some revised algorithms, maybe an early ladder filter that's better suited for mono sounds, maybe faster envelope options. I don't particularly like the Serum UI... too much tabbing. I like Hive much more myself.andresnol wrote:This. I look forward to that new GUI... I never particularly liked the spaceship look, but Hive is hands down the fastest synth UI that I've used.Urs wrote:Don't get me wrong - Hive has a great UI that is very fast and easy to use. I am all for more mature and classy UI's.Urs wrote:Don't get me wrong - Hive has a great UI that is very fast and easy to use. But I was also thinking more things like, should a modern synth have ADSR sliders. Is it better to use click and dropdown menu and mouseover scroll or click and drag up and down. Should there be "next and back" buttons on filter type selection and FX (Zebra 2 OSC FX) to make quick audition while your other hand is on midi keyboard's encoder modulating or finding a sweet spot. Or how Diva Volta skin has that new "signal flow" page (which maybe does not fit the Diva concept though) where you can easily get familiar how different filters sound on different modulations and modules.
Maybe these things are more important for beginners and me, cause I honestly do not usually think while tweaking a sound that "Oh man, Trajector would sound so good on here, let me select it".

Speaking of UI.electro wrote:Diva already covers a tremendous amount of ground. What else is getting added? That alternative Volta GUI is genius.Urs wrote: The concepts for Zebra3 require a lot of research (as do the planned additions to Diva and the modular range)
Afaik Diva is very simple meta subtractive synth. It has very limited in a good way amount of controls and mods. UI wise it's repeating analog counterparts i.e. if users saw substractive synth before their know what to do. Zebra is completely opposite: it's has no real-world counterpart (not anymore) it's has tonns (yes, metric) ways of creating and controlling sounds and it doesn't fit to Diva paradigm.
Murderous duck!
