I discovered this link to a bundle of Synthmaker "semulations" by K Brown. It is quite a large group covering some famous and/or obscure hardware emulations. There's even some emulations of 3 popular soft synths. I don't know if this has been posted before or not. Unfortunately for me, I am not a sound designer and these plugs only come with the init patch. I was wondering if anyone is aware of presets existing for any of them. I tried some "knob twiddling" , but these are not simple synths and to be honest I haven't got a clue. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could point me to some presets( or maybe make a few). If nothing else I would like to share the "wealth".

You know, if these were all 64 bit, I'd jump all over this and download every single one. But it's Synthmaker, it's 32 bit, and dollars to donuts, none of them will work on my PC.

Shame.

I understand....thanks for responding.Hats off the the people who have the ability to program these instruments. It's all I can do to just play them.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. Mind-numbing amount of work put into these, and very interesting thread. 8)
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

Thanks, most of them work nicely in Reaper. Now the work is to find the keepers. ;)

All the Roland / Korg / ARP and Moog emu's are certainly keepers IMO :D

But how do they sound?

Unbeliveably the download comes with like 60 saw2KtableSM.dat & tri2KtableSM.dat files. Over 100MB.

The first thing I did was delete these files, they will be regenerated anyhow when loading the VST

Some issues:

- Small GUIs (on HD displays), not resizable.

- When moving knobs / sliders, I hear some audio glitches.

- Using my sustain pedal I have stuck notes on many of the plugins.

well, they ARE vintage emulations that make sounds that can be made by other non-synthmaker VA's
like OBXD, PG8X and Charlatan... but with some nicely done GUIs albeit small as Chris-S noted.

i was playing with the Roland System 500 emu which comes with no presets but was abale to come up with some interesting, usable sounds :borg:

I am grateful to Brown that he has shared his creations, but I also wonder why he set out on this creative journey.

What were his goals?

If taken as an art portfolio I think the software devs out there in need of GUI designers should take note.

Anyone else having trouble downloading the synthmaker bundle? It appears there is a restriction on downloads with dropbox for these, never had that problem before but it's really irritating because I can only access the internet at certain times as I use my sisters computer and connection, and I really would of liked to have been able to download them in one session.

Anybody got any comments about the sound of these? Do they use any non-SM modules, do they sound like the synths they 'emulate'? Thanks.

Hey folks - logically they doesn´t sound like the originals/their ancestors.....
Who may be believe that, believes to the "holy ghost or father christmas", too.

They are all betas yet, do have no parameter automation and cos of this - no presets...
The absolutely outstanding feature are their beautiful, fotorealistic GUI´s and most of the
synths in this package (nearly to 70 synths) do have the possiblities of their originals,
the inner structure (as good as to be made with the SM/FS-modules).
But they won´t sound like the originals.....

For example, fiddled around with this MS20-Emulation and for sure, it doesn´t have
that wonderful sharp, gritty filter and can´t make those famous formant sounds.
The patchfield isn´t the same, but cos of this, this emu can produce some other,
interesting noises and sfx, I can´t get out of my hardware MS.

The synths may have bugs (depending of the DAW) and everyone has to report this
(write to the Dev), to get them out of the beta up to version 1.0 status....

I think, they are worth it and - based on another thread here - someone can go back
from 64-bit to 32-bit, to have a play with..... :hihi:
