2:30 video just for one Link support? What is wrong with this company? they bring one feature and make a movie out of it. Isn't PDC a priority?

Well, to be fair - it's the first DAW outside of Live to support it, so yeah - I'd say it's a big deal. It's also the first time (that I know of) where Propellerhead embraced another company's open protocol, instead of just falling back on ReWire.

PDC isn't much of priority apparently!

Well, since you don't need Ableton Live to use Link and that it is open source, I'm sure you'll see a steady stream of DAWs incorporating it soon.
This could have been a Propellerhead technology - an off shoot of ReWire, perhaps. But I think they were so concerned with establishing Rack Extensions, that they couldn't even move to the next logical step of Rewire Master.

I'm looking forward to Studio One supporting it (hopefully). I'd prefer not to ReWire.

You'd want to Ableton Link S1 and Reason? How would you render project files?

Come on EnchoLight they haven't even finished that darker GUI they started. If they care about their user that darker GUI would have been finished by now. But as usual, One or two shiny things and 2:30 minute of commercial. I wonder what they do if they start updating and upgrading like studio one. My guess is a series of documentary. look Ableton video for its own Link 1:30 they don't even talk about it.

Go and see Propellerhead video it is just shiny like a porn star home. They always play mind game. Even you yourself gave me as a reason as if they went a head of other DAWs by incorporating this Link.

The big news is that Ableton opened Link to desktop apps and shared the code for anyone under a very flexible license so anyone can jump on it.

Obviously the big player who should jump in to it s NI with Maschine and traktor.

For those (like me) who don't have a clue about Link, here is a FAQ: https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/artic ... -Link-FAQs

This is a little lame for me though:
What kind of musical information is sent via Link?
Link currently provides tempo sync and a grid to which apps can align. There are no Song Position or Start/Stop messages sent via Link, nor can any other MIDI data be sent.
I thought this provided a bit more than Rewire. Doesn't look like it. :? Even less.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

OK. I only said they're the first DAW to support Ableton Link outside of Live, which warrants recognition to some degree (clearly, Ableton's joint-timed announcement confirms this). I'm not without my own criticisms though, to be sure. But you seem to be passionate about yours!

For me (if I needed to), I'd record the audio in Reason and render it that way. With ReWire, Reason can't be the master. Using Ableton Link, any can be master.

It does provide the ability to help Reason be a master (something you could never do with ReWire). So, there's that...

But, I think many are missing the point: Link is to sync apps for live playback and performance (for bands, groups, jam sessions, etc). And doing this wirelessly is huge, IMHO.

I hear ya. For many, this feature will have no value. For me, I tend to mess about with quite a few mobile music making apps and there was really no easy way to sync transports before. Link solves all of this - wirelessly even - which makes experimenting a blast.

Oh, they missed the boat on the obvious naming of it, should have called it:

Reason 2 Live or Reason ][ Live :D

Post

Seems to be the Ableton appreciation day.

Just got the Prop newsletter about their link up, and now got the newsletter from Arturia declaring:

KeyLabs and Ableton: Strength in Unity !

Post

It doesn't surprise me if Ableton sends the newsletter for them it is an add. They will be considered as an innovator. The more other DAWs use it the better for them.
