Newbie Kontakt problem: does anyone know how to do this?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me with a Kontakt player issue. I'm in Logic Pro X.

I bought cinestrings by cinesamples last year, and have recently purchased a Korg nanokontrol 2 so that I could control features like the built in sampled dynamic layers and vibrato with a slider, rather than programming it in afterwards with the mouse.

The trouble is, I don't know how to assign those parameters to my controller.

I know that you can go into either Kontact player or logic and use the simple "midi learn" feature to use the controller on whatever onscreen nob or fader you want to control, but this doesn't seem to work for the onscreen buttons I want to control.

For example, the main thing I want to use it for is sweeping through the dynamic layers, which is assigned to the Kontakt mod wheel.
When the mod wheel is at zero, the strings are played very softly, and at 127 they're at full force, and everything in between.

The mod wheel doesn't seem to be programmable with the midi learn function, so I have no idea how to map it to the slider.
There's also a similar feature to control vibrato, but I can't even find where that's mapped.
(In the cinesamples demonstrations, they use one fader for expression and dynamics, and another for vibrato)

Any idea on what to do?

Thanks very much!

So you didn't figure out how to assing MIDI CC 1 using Korg Kontrol Editor software? It's really simple.

Haha, hello again.

No I didn't, and I didn't want to pester you again.

I set the slider to midi cc 1 in the software and saved it but nothing happened, maybe I did something wrong.

Maybe. There's also a manual for Korg's editor if there are things that are unclear :)

It is the second thread I have seen in a week from users having issues with midi learn, using Logic.

I wonder if there can be a pattern ?

I had a look at the manuel when I downloaded the software the other day, and it seemed I did everything is said in there.
I'll have a look again to see if I missed anything.

Also, when I loaded the software for the first time, one of the sliders was already set to CC1, but didn't move he mod wheel in Kontakt despite that, so I have no idea.

Had a look through the manuel again, and as said, it does seem very simple.
The fader is assigned to the correct CC number to work with the mod wheel, and I've written and re-written the scene several times but nothing moves inside Kontakt.

Try to "paint" the CC1 movements with a pencil in the MIDI track addressed to Kontakt, to see if it receives and responds to the messages. This will help to check if the problem lies in the controller, in Kontakt or in the sequencer.

Painting in the movements works fine, this is how I've been doing it for the last couple of years.
You do this with the step editor which seems to be linked in with all the common midi parameters, which includes modulation.

Presumably, then, it's controller that's not responding.

Just been looking online and it seems quite a few people have had issues using midi learn and Logic X.
Non with my specific issue, but as said, it seems there is a trend.
