It does when you have a 64-bit DAW without a bridge, or if you don't want to bridge plugins. I can only say that devs who still use SynthEdit should wake up, because it's 2016, and many people are indeed using 64-bit DAW's. With the next version of Cubase, you won't even be able to run 32-bit plugins anymore. SynthEdit or Flowstone are deader than dead. Time for devs to realize that. Especially when they charge for their stuff.
haha - why do you have quoted out of context..... chk071?

I´ve said, it doesn´t make sense, what PC-system is in use by a good musician - if 32 or 64 bit.....
What exactly does it matter? Noone claimed otherwise. Noone claimed that 64-bit "sounds better" either. I don't know where you read that from. Nonetheless i believe releasing a commercial synth 32-bit only in 2016 is a no-go. Unless you want to get rid of most clients.
For sure - I´ve read it often.....at last somewhere in a "Korg Legacy...." thread, where someone
bought a 64-bit systems and wrote: "now the MS20 sounds a little bit brighter and better..."
But I don´t want to browse through all those messages..... and this wasn´t the first time, I´ve
read such a idiocy.... some people are mix up every bit notation.....

I think, the biggest fault was made by all the big developers of the DAWs like Steinberg, Logic
and so on - not to integrate a automatically support for 32s-bit. So there would be no need for
a external bridge (which doesn´t work on all 32-bit plugs). It only depends on the DAW.
You can use a 32-Bit and a 64-Bit DAW in your system. WHEN do you really need a 64-Bit DAW.
Are you using those big Sample-Libraries with 8 GB or more?
There´s absolutely no need for 64-Bit, if you only working with "normal" vst-plugins.

No one has to buy the newest Cubase or whatelse.... I´m using my fantastic Samplitude V10
and I´m very satisfied - optimal configured with my hardware and all my software -
doesn´t need any upgrade or other DAW - why ever change a winning team....

But as I said, it´s your choice - cos I can use every plug from that "old" era.
So, two months ago I´ve created a soundbank for a VSTi (developed in 2003 !!!)
and it sounds absolutely gorgeous. Why should I renounce of something good.

The air for those few 64-Bit VSTi´s are thin nowadays - so much goodies are in 32-Bit.....
like old hardware, which will never can re-produced by any newer hardware-synths nowadays...

But it doesn´t bother me - I can use that all and these are my last 2 cent in this thread or
all the other threads that may come, when a dev bring on a new vsti (developed in 32-bit)
to the light of day....and again, someone will say for ever and ever: oh no 32-bit - deepest stone age -
never buy - forget it - greetings from the past :hihi:

I will buy or use it - wether other people can use it too or not

But, Tubeohm always developing very good plugins.... I like his Vocoder 2 too
This new 106 emulation lines up in his row of good synths.... even if it´s 32-bit

Oh, yeah, i read that Korg MS-20 thing too. :) TBH, i wasn't sure if serious or joking. Anyway. It's a fact that more and more DAW's go 64-bit only. Reason, Cubase, Logic too i believe? Cubase won't even feature a 32-bit bridge in future versions anymore. Talking of "thin air", the devs still using something like SynthEdit or Flowstone, which only build 32-bit VST2's, will soon face their software becoming more and more deprecated. Anyway, i do understand the reasons, being familiar with the framework, and having to pay a neat sum for developing commercial stuff in JUCE for example. But, again, you restrict a big part of your potential customerbase that way. In this case i hardly think that the dev will live from what he does anyway. For devs who do, developing for 32-bit only will surely not be a valid option.

I can't believe youngsters like you fell for the 32 bit hype. I am happily running a 4 bit abacus which has no bugs and never crashes.

What's a DAW anyway? I have been playing spoons in my local jug band since 1937. We never had a DAW player in the jug band and I don't reckon we'll need one soon.Image

I'm just happy to have the price of a cup o’ tea, without milk or sugar ... or spoons.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

My 2 cents on this whole 32 bit, 64 bit thing.

If you have a 32 bit system and 32 bit DAW, use 32 bit plugs.

If you have a 64 bit system and 32 bit DAW, use 32 bit plugs.

If you have a 64 bit system and 64 bit DAW, use whatever will work for you.

I'd love to use 32 bit plugs, especially the ones that I think sound great, but my 64 bit system and 64 bit DAW doesn't like most of them. I have maybe 2 that don't crash my DAW. Not that 64 bit synths can't crash your DAW. They certainly can if there are bugs in them.

Sound quality is all subjective, so this whole 64 bit sounds better than 32 bit is just that, subjective. Listen to HG Fortune synths.

So, for the most part, this whole 32 bit, 64 bit war bores me. It's almost as tiresome as the whole hardware vs software thing. If you like hardware, use hardware. If you like software, use software. If you like both, use both.

I think Tube's stuff sounds good but I don't like their GUIs and the 32 bit stuff doesn't work on my system. It's for those reasons, and not because they're 32 bit that I don't use them.

In any case, I've now changed the thread's title and added (Win, 32 bit). It should be clear what you'll get if you decide to click on this thread title!!!

Flowstone and SynthEdit are great program to learn the basics of audio DSP. I personally prefer Flowstone, as I can create apps with it which is great! But as far as commercial products goes, I feel that Kontakt took the place of SE even if both program are very different, we now see as much Kontakt instruments as we once saw SE plugins. Every week we are grace with new Kontakt based instruments.

Anyways, I digress...

Interesting perspective, that; I'd not thought of that before, but I tend to agree with you.

I didn't realise Synthedit existed anymore. 32, that will very soon be like trying to reinstall Windows XP on your new PC W10.

Post

You do realise there is 32 bit version of Windows 10? :)

Anyway, I have to look into TO plugins. Some interesting sounds here.

One of the nice things about his synths is the included stand-alone versions, so you don't have to go through the trouble of installing a dll just to try out a demo.

What a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooog sentence. :ud:

Yeah good luck with your toaster and 4GB of Ram in the year 5000!

I think I'll stick with the excellent TAL Uno LX and Diva to go with my nice 6 core 64 bit system with 32GB of Ram and no bridged plugins thanks.

Wow! That must be a very long bar of RAM... :hihi:

Ya, Mr Rob.....but you know........you will never, never, never, never, never, never and never again
need this engine for your music-production.... for using just all those little, small vst-plugins
Do you working on some Hollywood-Scores and go in and out the House of Mr. H. Zimmer????

That´s for gamers or other virtual people - but this is not my world -
I´m playing in the real world with real things..... :hyper:

So, I´m with "Wagtunes"......and bored with this discussion, too....
and I´m tired to wrote and think those everlasting words about 32-bit/64-bit again and again.

I´m using many hardware too.....from vintage synths like my old Crumar, to an CS-01, Juno 60 up to
middle-aged synths like an Yamaha AN1x, Kawai K1 II and many other....
Rather I doesn´t need any plugin and so the question of 32/64-bit is obsolete...
Many of my HW-synths can´t be reproduced with any vsti, so what..... and therefore a
32-Bit PC with WIN XP fits all my needs for mixing/my DAW - for what 64-Bit....??

And 64-bit DOESN´T sound better than 32-bit - even not subjective - this is bullshit, sorry!!!!

So software-plugs are a wonderful addition to hardware - side by side.......
Nothing is better or poorer
Synthedit isn´t that bad - there are quality differences because of the good work/bad work
of the developers - some VSTi´s sounds fantastic and some worse - the same with Flowstone
or Synthmaker....

Sometimes, I think - all you haters or smartypants, are contemptuous rant against 32-Bit,
cos you can´t use those plugs anymore (even your j-bridge/Cubase or whatever doesn´t work)
and you have only access to those very few 64-Bit Vst´s - most of them are commercially and
- that´s what I meant: the air of free plugs with 64-bit is very very thin - there are only a few..
BIG Libraries costs BIG Money - so you all pay some hundred or thousand of dollar/euro for it -
ya for sure.... :o

And you all are working commercially on soundtracks, Game-soundtracks, movie-post productions
or are successful producers - every months in the charts - really.....
Or you bought and switched over to 64-bit too fast, because of that wonderful and mass
advertising - and without to use your brain..... cos
And after buying and installation of DAW in 64-bit and all other, you recognised -
Ooooh no - I can´t used all those wonderful old plugins no more.... so, you were a hater of 32-bit
Your own inability and acknowledge of this fault, you manifest in those contempts
for 32-Bit and it´s users.... that´s called vengeance

Oh - and some few people here, which crying out loud for fully developed 64-bit,
are kids - really kids, who are mainly EDM-Producers, but can´t play anything or
couldn´t read any music notes.....cos working only with loops or always the same samples
to copy the next EDM smash hit, which will be forgotten next year.....

Sometimes I think - this is only Gear-porn.... 64-Bit - hey - I have a newest, biggest
64-bit - I´m the Kiiiinnng!!! 32-Bit - häää what is that - that is way back....

A PC - wether 32- or 64-bit is only just a tool - nothing more....
so why - why all this silly discussions....????

Indeed - my imagination of a state-of-the-art system is a big modular system,
but not the fastest PC, which I will never make any use of.....

So let the 32-Bit systems their users and those wo wants to use that 64-bit - ha - well have fun,
but don´t queen it over with words like stone-age, or "no chance", or synth-edit - worse thing....
Cos - this people - really really knows absolutely nothing..... :hihi:

For the need of normally music-production, 32-Bit is absolutely and functionally adequate....

And I´m no youngster - I´m a 49er - and for the next 20 years, I want to produce music -
I will use a 32-Bit system (some months ago, I´ve bought some spare-parts for every case)
- equal if there will be even a 128-Bit system in those times or we have chips in our brains.....
- so 64-bit will be old then.... but 32-bit won´t die......

But so, so I can use those wonderful vsti´s (even made with Flowstone/Synthmaker/Synthedit)
even in my old days for many, many years - and this -

yes, this is a very good prospect..... :tu:

Yeah good luck with your toaster and 4GB of Ram in the year 5000!
newsflash: i make some great sounding music now in the 32bit domain with 3.5 gb of ram. And 32bit
will sound the same in 5000 as it does now. and yes, i will be alive in 5000.

i just happen to be the kind of musician that puts more importance on composition and production than follow the "my ram is bigger than your ram sheep".
