Hi everybody,

I like « dark neo-classical » bands (or whatever it’s called :) ).

Bands like :
Dead Can Dance
Arcana
Artesia
Wardruna

Are there other names you can recommend ?

Of course, if you are making this kind of music, feel free to post a link to your website/bandcamp/soundcloud…

I really hope that isn't the term that catches on for this stuff but...

Jim Thirlwell/Manorexia - the neo-classical stuff goes all the way back to the Foetus albums but it might only be one or two tracks on an album, such as Fraticide Pastorale on Thaw.

Also Clint Mansell's soundtrack work.

Does chamber-rock count? Godspeed You Black Emperor etc.

Thanks.
Giving a name is always a challenge, that's why i give some references.

Manorexia will be classified as experimental and Godspeed You Black Emperor is post-rock (that i really like too btw)

Thanks for the tips anyway.

If you haven't checked out Lisa Gerrard's solo work (from DCD) then do so.
Kelli Ali & Ozymandias - A Paradise Inhabited By Devils is worth a listen.

There's a couple of FB groups dedicated to this stuff too

Miasma and the Carousel of Headless Horses?

Have to say, to me, DCD always seemed more folk- and world-music influenced than classical, though.
An idiot on Set Theory:

Lisa Gerrard, of course. The greatest voice on earth (IMHO)

DCD has many influences from ethnic to medieval, Fantastic band...

Folk can lead to all kind of things

Nice links, thanks

Kelli Ali & Ozymandias - A Paradise Inhabited By Devils is worth a listen - she was the lead singer of Sneaker Pimps.

Hmm, going by your latter post, I guess some work by Angels of Venice and Mors Syphilitica might fit too.

LOL. Do they still exist?! I remember we used to call this kind of stuff "heavenly voices", I even made a record for the same Label of "Arcana" (it was a Swedish Industrial label called "CMI") under the name "Nova - Utopica Musa" in 1999 or so. I remember beside mine there were other two Italian projects under this label, they were named "Ataraxia" and "Gothica", which I guess are more in the style you're looking for (unlikely I kind of lost all contacts, too many years have passed). There's another Italian "neoclassic" band which I guess you probably will like, it's called "Ashram". However, one of the most important labels for this kind of stuff in that period was the german "Hyperium", they were the ones who launched so called "heavenly voices" (Love is Colder than Death, Stoa, Ophelia's Dream, Stella Maris etc.). Other interesting projects for you could be "Black Tape for a Blue Girl" (U.S.A.), "Pilori" (Germany), "Collection D'Arnell-Andrea" (France), "Ordo Equitum Solis" (Italy-France) and "Estasia" (Italy). Please, keep in mind we don't exist anymore, though  8)

Most of those bands doesn't exist anymore, i know, but the music is still there.

Artesia said they came in studio this year (i think around March, don't remember exactly)

And Peter Bjärgö made a lot of nice things after Arcana.
I like his project Sophia and his project Onus was excellent (with Sal-Ocin)

And this band, Deleyaman, still exist (with Brendan Perry as guest on their next album)
