I've got crackling sound issues with specific VSTi's within FL Studio, and need some help determining if it's just my setup or a problem with FLS/Echo in general.

If you have an Echo audio card, especially an Echo Indigo i/o, please load up the PlugSound Free VSTi into FLS and listen for crackling. If you don't have PlugSound Free, try Crystal or RGC SFZ+

Many VSTi's on my system don't seem to be affected within FLS, so I can't figure out what happened. All my DXi's within FLS are fine. It's inexplicable.

Is the crackling occuring continously throughout playback? Or just initially, when you press play?

It's continuous through playback. It's not a regular latency type problem as I have only one instance of the offending synth in there playing only one note. I've adjusted every possible latency combo as well as every possible driver combo. It's definitely something in FL Studio not liking certain VST's through an Echo card.

Some people are having similar issues with eXT and Echo, but I can get the standalone version of eXT to work fine except it crackles when I move panels around while playing.

Weird.

Hi Shane,

This won't help much, but I use an Echo Mona interface and plugsound free and crystal and I don't get any crackles at all in FL Studio. I usually use 23 ms latency.

Thanks. I just shut down my laptop and pulled the Indigo i/o out and put the regular Indigo in there. Now SFZ+ and Crystal work fine in FLStudio but PlugSound Free still has the same problem. This is so strange. The cards use the same driver!

I'm going to reverse this now and see if anything has changed (by some miracle) for the i/o card. If not, at least I'll know I'm not going crazy.

With the Indigo i/o back in there, now SFZ+ and Crystal work again, but PlugSound Free and microTera still don't work.

Oh well, at least I got the other two synths back as I use them a lot.

I JUST figured it out! Somehow in the drop down list where one chooses DXi's and VSTi's in FL Studio, it sometimes opens the plugin with the Cakewalk VST adapter rather than the Fruity Wrapper. I don't know why it started doing that. But the Cakewalk wrapper is the culprit.Things crackle when played back through it.

The workaround is to load the Fruity Wrapper first, then use the little folder icon on it to then load the plugin. Oddly, some of the plugins are listed at the top of the list and then again down at the bottom even though they are installed only once. So it's the bottom list that seems to avoid the Cakewalk adapter. I'll have to investigate more to see what's up with that, but it's a relief to know there's a way to use FLS again with my fave plugs.

Hope this helps somebody else at some point.
