Urs has talked about adding some additional functionality like that to Hive. It will get done at some point, though obviously they are focused on RePro at the moment.recursive one wrote:I wish Hive (or Sylenth but this is unlikely to happen) were evolving in this direction (more waveforms with smooth transition between them, some FM capabilities, various filters)
Now Hive is here, is it RIP Sylenth?

I just wanted to download the demo again in order to test that bass patch someone uploaded. So I entered Hive in Google, and it appeared on page 4 for the first time. Is that a good or bad result?

Hive and spire are my favorite personal combo. I'm very happy that the EDMr's aren't killing it. They are trying hard to kill spire though (I wish they would go somewhere else). I feel like I own Hive as an instrument. Like I have a personal sound. It sounds great and it performs very well. It's very playable.

Finally had time to download Hive again, and frankly, I don't quite get why you stressed so much that I may not use effects on Sylenth1 when you yourself used effects (namely distortion, chorus and eq) on your bass patch there. In addition you used the dirty filter mode, which might correspond to using the overdrive control in Sylenth1's filter section.mcnoone wrote:This is a few recordings of three sounds I did for Hive.
The first two bass sounds are the sounds I posted links to before.
There is a third sound at the end which is a a good example of a sound that I think is unique to Hive.
Note that both basses only use one oscillator and one filter each.
No sound altering effects either. Can Sylenth do these basses with one oscillator and one filter only with no over driven distortion or sound altering effects?
This just means that if you turn off the effects you still have the main sound almost exactly as it with effects on.

The overall volume was also pretty hot.
So I am a bit clueless as to what your point was

Turning them off doesn't alter the sound in any extreme way, and the distortion does not actually distort the sound, but is used more as an eq.
I didn't say you couldn't use the overdrive function of Sylenth. I stated that using the distortion in Sylenth can overdrive the sound to the point that it sounds completely different without it.
My distortion can be turned off, and all you'll get is a difference in eq. Not a completely different sound.
Besides it doesn't matter, as Hive can do sounds that Slylenth can, and do them just as easily as Sylenth. It has more functions, and more diverse sounds.
That was my point.

All effects are sound-altering, else they would not be used.
Well, when you turn all effects of your patch off and switch to clean filter mode, it is a rather bland standard sound that Sylenth1 can make as well. And with similar effects on on both, the results are also similar

I disagree. Subtle use of effects as opposed to the whole sound relying on them is a big difference.fluffy_little_something wrote:All effects are sound-altering, else they would not be used.

Doesn't matter what you say about it, as if you can't do the sound with one oscillator and one filter, then it means that Hive is the synth that is easier to use, and less is required to acquire some kind of sound, which is what the discussion was leaning toward, seeing how so many people said its easier to use to get some kind of sound. Apparently it isn't capable of replicating the sounds I posted, or else you would have posted the recordings and patches themselves as evidence to back up your claim.
Use anything you want in Sylenth. Let's see how much easier it is.
If you need to use more, and tweak more, to obtain some said sound using Sylenth. Then it isn't easier to use. Point made.

No switching to clean filter mode, as it is not the same as overdrive in Sylenth and effects all the other parameters. The dirty engine isn't some kind of overdrive like in Sylenth, and I didn't say you can't use it anyway.fluffy_little_something wrote:All effects are sound-altering, else they would not be used.

I said that the "distortion" in Sylenth can alter the sound so that it is a completely different sound without using it.

Use whatever you want in Sylenth. Let's hear it, and post the preset too. I can't wait to see how much easier it is than using one oscillator and one filter.

Stupid question time.
Is Hive a popular synth? More specifically, is it as popular as Sylenth1?

Well, people seem to know (or think they know) that Sylenth1 is one of the most popular synths around, used by just about everybody in the business. So how do they know this?chk071 wrote:Who knows.wagtunes wrote:Stupid question time.

Sylenth has been out much longer, and therefore has had many years to acquire a larger user base.wagtunes wrote:Stupid question time.

Though we all know that popularity does not always mean something is good.

The synth being "good" was not the reason for my question. Good is all subjective and a meaningless term. I have other reasons for asking.mcnoone wrote:Sylenth has been out much longer, and therefore has had many years to acquire a larger user base.wagtunes wrote:Stupid question time.
