cubase/HW sync?

hello,
i was tryin to add some hardware synth lines along side my VSTi tracks last night when i noticed again that my synth was not in sync.. it plays it's notes slightly later than the rest of the arrangement..
i don't know how to use the 'delay' slider yet.. what does it's number even refer to?
anyhow - is this a problem with cubase SX or my Novation Nova synth?
i've read here that cubase has some kind of MIDI sync problems that have yet to be fixed.. :-/

and also - i am uncertain, but i think this doesnt happen with all patches on my Nova.. in the past i have gotten through whole songs without such a loss of sync..
