High on cpu? Sure.... but so what

Mono sounds dont sound good as poly sounds? Utter rubbish.

There is NO reason at all in software to not have the option.
There is one very big reason. A developer can do what they want and it is none of your business. Don't buy it, or go code your own if you don't like it.

I could never be a developer...
Sure, they can do what they like, and i can buy what i like. Thats not the point. The point is, there is NO credible reason for a soft synth to be mono ONLY.
Sure there are credible reasons... what you are describing is a theoretical world. Theory and practice generally exist far apart from each other.

But I think you have no actual interest in an honest conversation. Plus you are way too rude.
Not rude at al, im honest. Everything i said us a fact. Prove me wrong. Show me a technical reason why monark/repro whatever cant be polyphonic.

Post

I think the main reasons are marketing and strategy. As was already said, if it were polyphonic, it might compete with Diva and even Hive in the case of people, who would use Hive only as a classic analog synth, anyway.

For good programmers there should not be any technical reasons.

You can. The basic character of the Prophet-5 and the Pro-One is the same. Due to error/spliff/whatever the Pro-One's resistor network was miscalculated so that the volumes between the single waveforms are not identical between Pro-One and Prophet-5. So basically, whatever can be switched on or off is kind of uhm, off, including maximum modulation depths and so on. Also, the filter is driven a bit hotter in the Prophet-5. This leaves the resonance in the Prophet 5 a bit more controllable while it's a tad mental in the Pro-One.

But for most patches of the Pro-V that are true to the Prophet-5's architecture you'll find a highly enjoyable monophonic counterpart in Repro-1. Same goes for NI Pro-53. I've checked both out any they're done very well (the quality of the Pro-53 actually surprised me considering when it first came out), but the level of detail in Repro-1 makes it a very different story, so far as a Pro-One can be compared to a Prophet-5.

Wow I think that sounds incredible. It rips!

That filter peaks so fast & smooth.

This thing will cut through a mix like a laser :D

Sure, which is why I haven't mentioned a single technical reason, no?

Making it poly is a piece of cake and can be done in less than a week. However, many many things would be considered a bug or bad design. It would be counter productive to do a poly version without a proper concept. As I said, we have three of those but we haven't decided yet which way we'll go.

Haha you people who want poly:

It's like you hear someone singing beautifully on their own and then want to put them in a choir because you think they will sound better that way. :dog:

I'm happy having a mono for the RePro - just like nature intended. That's what it was originally...
I will take the Lord's name in vain, whenever I want. Hail Satan! And his little goblins too.

There are a lot of people who sing both alone and in choirs, many a famous singer actually started out singing in a choir.

But that squelchy bass is all that matters. :tu:

Don't put Maria Callas in a choir.

Still running NI Pro-53 here and love it. An extremely fun synth to work with. I can get sounds that other synths don't seem to get quite right. 32bit has its advantages (older plug ins that sound great) and pitfalls.(memory) Monophonic is perfect for Repro IMO.

In fact the more music I make the more its the synths that are most fun and sound great that make it in the final mix.

This is a ridiculous and ignorant statement.

Cool demo track, makes me excited to try out the plug-in!
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

I also like the pro 53, from my Komplete 5, but the GUI is terrible, I hope there will be a new emulation in reaktor6 anytime.
Plughugger made realy nice patches for the Prophet5, but removed the two soundsets from his shop, maybe Carl can offer them again as soundset for the rePro.

Now that I'm testing the Alpha further, the oscillator kind of reminds me of the sound of Diversion synth. That one uses heavy oversampling, too. The filter in RePro is killer, though.
